Filter by:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of using orthodontic bands with glass ionomer cement to arrest or reverse interproximal lesions as a preventive treatment compared to monitoring and oral hygiene. The investigators hypothesize that placing orthodontic bands with glass ionomer cement will arrest and possibly remineralize incipient carious lesions compared to teeth that are being monitored without intervention.
This study is a prospective randomized controlled study of patients who come to the University. The aim is to evaluate the success rate of selective removal of carious tissue in deep lesions of posterior teeth. Three different materials will be used as liners (VitreBond ™Plus, BioDentine™, and Theracal™ LC). Post-operative pain, clinical, and radiographic success will be evaluated at one, two, and five-year follow-up. The null hypothesis is that there will be no statistically significant differences in rates of successful treatment with the three materials used.
Orthodontic treatment is common in teenagers, which typically involve the attachment of metal brackets to the teeth. These brackets often impede proper oral hygiene, leading to plaque accumulation and the development of white spots lesions (the early stage of cavity development). Our study aims to investigate the efficacy of different commercially available fluoride varnishes to treat these white spot lesions after the completion of orthodontic treatment and evaluate their effect on the oral microbiome. Target enrollment is 120 subjects. The study will follow a split-mouth design, with each subject receiving different treatment on the left and right sides of their mouth. The subjects will be randomized into 3 groups, with each group receiving two of the following three options: placebo varnish, traditional sodium fluoride varnish, and a resin-modified glass ionomer light-cured fluoride varnish. There will be 4 total visits for this study: Baseline (day 0): Oral health assessed, plaque collected, intraoral photos taken, dental cleaning performed, DiagnoDent measurements taken, varnishes applied T1 (day 30): Oral health assessed, plaque collected, intraoral photos taken, DiagnoDent measurements taken, varnishes reapplied T2 (day 90): Oral health assessed, plaque collected, intraoral photos taken, DiagnoDent measurements taken, varnishes reapplied T3 (day 180): Oral health assessed, plaque collected, intraoral photos taken, DiagnoDent measurements taken, dental cleaning performed Participants will be instructed to use regular fluoridated toothpaste and floss twice per day for the duration of the study.
This study will evaluate the effectiveness of oral health promotion in the prevention of ECC (early childhood caries) in bottle-fed children. Half of the patient will receive oral health promotion which emphasizing more on the benefit of stopping the bottle feeding habit, a free-flow cup and oral hygiene kit which include a toothbrush, toothpaste (1000ppm fluoride). The other half of the patient will receive standard of care oral hygiene promotion and oral hygiene kit which include a toothbrush, toothpaste (1000ppm fluoride)
The aim of this clinical study is to compare and evaluate the Success of Selective Caries vs Stepwise Caries Removal Techniques in treatment of dental caries.
Clinical performance of indirect adhesive restorations - onlays, overlays- luted with light-cured composite resin will be evaluated over three years.
Trait anxiety is the tendency of an individual to perceive environmental stimuli such as different events and situations as threatening; it's stable and reflects how an individual generally feels. In 2015, it was estimated that 3.6% of the population lived with anxiety disorders globally, i.e. approximately 264 million people lived with anxiety disorders worldwide of which 31.36 million resided in the Eastern Mediterranean region, that's to say, 10% of the global number of anxiety cases. Moreover, females were more affected than males in a proportion of 4.6% as opposed to 2.6% respectively. The prevalence of anxiety has increased by 14.9% from 2005 to 2015. In addition, in 2017, approximately 42 million new cases were recorded globally. In Egypt, the total number of anxiety cases were more than 3 million in 2015 thus indicating that 4.2% of the total population lived with anxiety. Anxiety may affect the individual's utilization of dental services and predispose to a delay in seeking dental treatment and thus might compromise the overall oral health. Accordingly, this study aims to investigate the effect of trait anxiety on the oral health status of women and determine their behavior towards the utilization of dental services. To our knowledge, no previous research has been conducted to assess such relationship in Egypt.
The objective of the study is to determine the different profiles of patients with early caries consulting at the Lille CHU and to analyse the characteristics associated with the severity of the pathology. The data will be collected using a simple clinical examination of the child and a survey of the parent using a questionnaire. The typology of patients with early caries will be analysed according to the predefined variables collected using the questionnaire via a main component analysis in order to study the links between these variables. At the same time, a hierarchical classification analysis will be carried out to study the existence of homogeneous sub-groups of individuals in regard to the early caries. These sub-groups will be described
Atypical cavities, which involve more than two surfaces being one of them vestibular or lingual/palatine, are a challenge for restorative dentistry, since the risk of failure of the restorations are related to the number of surfaces involved. Thus, the objective of this project is to conduct a randomized clinical trial in order to evaluate the efficacy and patient-centered outcomes of a chemically-activated alkasite composite resin in atypical lesions of deciduous molars. Deciduous molars of children between 4 and 7 years of age with at least one atypical cavity lesion in deciduous molars will be selected for the ECR. The selected teeth will be randomly divided into two groups: Chemically activated composite resin Alkasite and resin-Modified glass ionomer cement. Clinical and radiographic follow-up of the lesions will be performed for 6 and 12 months. The efficacy of the treatments will be evaluated by the longevity of the restoring procedures and the arrestment of the caries lesions. Patient-centered outcomes will also be evaluated.
Atypical cavities, which involve more than two surfaces, one being buccal or lingual/palatal, are a challenge for restorative dentistry, since the risk of restorative failure is related to the number of surfaces involved. Thus, the purpose of this umbrella project is to conduct a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to evaluate the efficacy and patient-centered outcomes of a chemically activated composite alkasite resin in atypical deciduous molar lesions. Primary molars of children aged 4 to 7 years with at least one atypical cavitary lesion in primary molars will be selected for the RCT. The selected teeth will be randomly divided into: Alkasite chemically activated composite resin and Bulk fill composite resin. Clinical and radiographic follow-up of the lesions will be performed for 6 and 12 months. The effectiveness of the treatments will be evaluated by the longevity of the restorative procedures and paralysis of the lesions. Patient-centered outcomes will also be evaluated.
