Dental caries is one of the most common oral diseases of childhood and is considered as a major public health problem especially in areas with poor access to dental care. In a recent cross sectional study carried out in Egypt on 1000 child aged from 3-6 years, it was found that 61.4% of these children had dental caries. In order to avoid serious complications of untreated dental caries such as pain, infections, emergency visits and possibly hospitalization , an effective low cost treatment should be identified particularly in areas with poor dental access. Studies have proven that silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a topical fluoride that has the ability to effectively arrest and prevent dental caries.
The aim of this study is to verify the quantitative and qualitative effect of Erbium dental laser therapy on microbial populations in carious lesions and to compare the laser therapy with traditional conservative therapies.
This study focus on the pharmacokinetic characteristic of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) in healthy children. All of the children received treatment for the decayed teeth in the same way. A medication called silver diamine fluoride is used to treat the decayed teeth. It contains a high concentration of fluoride (range from 14100 ppm to 51013 ppm) and silver. This medication halts the decay process through the combined effects of anti-bacterial from silver and remineralization from fluoride. As this product contains the highest concentration of fluoride level found in the market and the metal element of silver, the investigators aim to study the body's reaction towards SDF. The investigators collect the hair and urine samples at different time points and then analyze them to determine the silver and/or fluoride levels. The outcomes include 1. the silver level in the hair and urine samples 2. the fluoride level in the urine samples. The investigators analyze the silver level in hair and urine samples using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS); fluoride level in urine samples using Ion-Selective Electrode.
Prospective single arm study was to evaluate the clinical success and/ or failure of resin-bonded composite coronal build-up retained by macro-retentive grooves for restoring mutilated primary maxillary incisors after 36 months. Design: Forty two primary incisors out of 14 children, aged 2-5years, treated in a private pediatric dental practice under general anesthesia and presented for follow-up after 6, 12, 18, 24 and 36 months included in the study. The parameters recorded at the baseline and at the follow-up intervals were: retention, colour match, the number and location of the decayed surfaces (recurrent caries), chipping /fracture of the restoration and loss of restoration (failure). Materials and Methods: A total of (14) pediatric patients aged from 2-5 years presented with mutilated primary anterior teeth due to caries or trauma and treated comprehensively under general anesthesia from June 2016 to June 2017 were enrolled in this study. A total of (42) decayed or traumatized primary anterior teeth were treated with composite coronal build-up based on the micro-mechanical adhesive procedure of composite resin in addition to macro mechanical retentive grooves created on the lateral sides of the cervical one third of the roots of treated teeth. The patients returned at the end of 6, 12, 18, 24 and 36 months and received clinical examinations. Another dentist (co-author) who did not attend the treatment evaluated the strip crowns clinically by modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria.
Target question is as the following one: Does the daily use of a fluoride-free, microcrystalline hydroxyap-atite (HAP) - containing test toothpaste have a non-inferior caries preventing effect in the permanent dentition compared to the regular use of a fluoride control toothpaste (1450 ppm F-) with proven caries preventive efficacy (Walsh et al. 2019)? This multicenter, non-inferiority clinical trial, randomized, double-blind, active-controlled design, two-armed study evaluates the hypothesis that the home regular use of a toothpaste containing microcrystalline hydroxylapatite (HAP) (test toothpaste) provides a caries preventive effect in adults aged 18-45 comparable to the caries preventive effect provided by the regular use of a fluoridated tooth paste (1450 ppm -F) (control toothpaste) over observation periods of max. 18 months. Caries development will be assessed according to the clinical criteria of the Decay Missing Filling Surface Index (DMFS).
The objective of this study is to assess the safety and to evaluate the anti-caries efficacy of COL101 (arginine) non-fluoride dentifrices compared to a 0.24% sodium fluoride dentifrice in 10-14 year-old children over a one year period.
Space maintainers are used to preserve the space after premature loss of teeth but they could effect some factors that play a role in caries formation. The research aimed to assess the impacts of removable and fixed space maintainers on the salivary pH, flow rate, and Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus carriage.
in patients with Class I Cavities, will the use of Zenit Nano Ceramic Composite restorations have similar clinical performance to conventional Ceram-X Nano Ceramic Composite restorations, evaluation of restorations will be done at baseline, six, and twelve months using Modified USPHS Ryge criteria.
Although zirconia is widely used for fabrication of restorations, the 3Y-TZP zirconia where limited for posterior region for its high strength and bad esthetic. While the 5Y-TZP zirconia is limited for the anterior region due to its good esthetic and low strength. For that reason, the introduction of the new gradient technology zirconia (5Y-TZP\3Y-TZP) (IPS e.max Zircad Prime) has offered a solution to solve this problem be combining the esthetic of 5Y-TZP and the high strength of 3Y-TZP. The aim of the present study is to evaluate shade matching to natural tooth and patient satisfaction of the new gradient technology zirconia (5Y-TZP\3Y-TZP) and lithium disilicate ceramic crowns.
