Effect of Chewing a Calcium Supplement Before Fluoride Rinse on Salivary Fluoride

The anticaries effect of fluoride is through the increase in fluoride presence and retention in the oral fluids, reducing dental demineralization and enhancing remineralization. Previous studies showed that a preapplication of calcium (in a rinse) prior to administration of fluoride greatly enhances fluoride concentration in the mouth and the anticaries effect of fluoride. The hypothesis of this study is that the same can be achieved by chewing a calcium supplement prior to a fluoride rinse. The first goal is to determine if chewing these calcium supplements will increase calcium concentration in the oral fluids above baseline levels. Secondly, the calcium supplement with the highest calcium release will be tested before a fluoride rinse to assess the increased retention of fluoride in the oral fluids when compared with the fluoride rinse alone. In both parts, healthy volunteers will participate and saliva will be collected to assess calcium and fluoride concentration.

Purpose: to compare the periodontal health and clinical performance of primary molars restored with custom-made and prefabricated zirconia crowns. Hypothesis is the performance of primary molars restored with custom-made zirconia crowns will be equivalent to those restored with prefabricated zirconia crowns.

Clinical Evaluation of Extensive Direct Composite Restorations With Polyethylene Fiber

The aim of this clinical trial was to compare the clinical performances of composite resin restorations with/without the polyethylene fiber to the first permanent molar teeth with extensively carious pediatric patients. A total of 75 restorations with (FC; n=38)or without (C; n=37) fiber were placed in the first permanent molar teeth. Restorations were evaluated at baseline-6-12-18 months according to the modified-USPHS criteria. Data were analyzed with Chi-Square and Cochran's Q (p<0.05).

Relationship Between Tooth Decay and Trabecular Bone

Chewing, a movement that matures with experiences, has effects on the growth and development of the stomatognathic system. Tooth decay, which is known to have effects on chewing, can affect the jaw bone due to its indirect effect on the mechanical forces transmitted to the jaw bone. This study was aimed to evaluate the relationship between dental caries and jaw bone trabeculation during the growth and development processes in children by fractal dimension analysis method. 40 patients with deep-dentin caries / apical rarefying osteitis on the right or left side, 40 patients with deep-dentin caries / apical rarefying osteitis on either the right and left sides and 40 patients without deep-dentin caries / apical rarefying osteitis between 8-13 ages were randomly selected. Digital panoramic images of the selected patients were analyzed with fractal dimension analysis.

Pre-operative Radiograph of Deep Carious Lesions as a Predictive Tool for Pulpal Exposure

Preserving pulpal vitality is a major challenge when excavating deep caries lesions without severe symptomatology. Pulpal exposure alters success of the treatment (dropping from 93% for indirect pulp treatment with selective excavation to 11% for direct pulpotomy) and thus prognosis of dental organ and cost-effectiveness of the treatment. The preoperative x-ray is a complementary examination which allows to estimate the depth of the carious lesion. In clinical practice, it is currently difficult to accurately measure this depth on preoperative radiographs. This lack of precision leads to a decrease in the effective capacity of the operator to predict the risk of pulpal exposure. Their interpretation is considered imprecise and is not used as a diagnostic element. The aim of this study was to determine if the use of pre-operative retroalveolar radiographs can help to predict pulpal exposure risk.

A Comparative Clinical Study of Different Caries Removal Techniques in Pediatric Patients

The aim of this study is to evaluate the acceptance of pediatric patiens using Er: YAG laser in comparison with the conventional techniques for caries removal. The study was carried out on 100 children between the ages of 9-12, who had class 1 occlusal caries in one of their permanent first molars. The patients were divided into two groups; conventional technical group and laser group. Rotary handpieces was used in conventional technique group, Er:YAG laser was used in the laser group for caries removal. The heart rate of each patient was measured during the caries removal procedure at 30 seconds intervals. The pain during the procedure was determined by VAS. CFSS-DS scale was used to determine the anxiety level of the patients before and after the procedure. FIS was used to determine how patients are disturbed from the smell, taste, sound, vibration and sight of the devices after the procedure. The video segments were collected from the patients during the caries removal and the procedural pain were evaluated by the FLACC scale.

Can Zirconia Crown be the First Choice for Primary Teeth?

Objective: Early loss of primary teeth due to caries, can cause occlusion disorders, aesthetic problems, nutritional problems, abnormal language habits, speech disorders and psychological problems temporary or permanent. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the success of using prefabricated aesthetic crowns for the restoration of excessive tooth loss. Study design: In this randomized, non-blinded clinical study a total of 45 teeth were included, primary molars and anterior teeth and requiring restoration after root canal treatment. Stainless steel(SCC), zirconia(ZC) and strip(S) crowns compared clinically, radiographically and periodontally during follow up period for 6 months. Parents were asked to fill out questionnaire at the 1st and 6th months to evaluate the satisfaction level. In addition, patients' pain and discomfort level was assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS) scale.

Effectiveness of the Intraligamentary Anesthesia and Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block on Pain During Dental Treatment

Objective: To compare the effectiveness and complications of intraligamentary anesthesia (ILA) with conventional inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) during injection and dental treatment of mandibular posterior teeth. Materials and Methods: In this randomized, prospective clinical trial, 72 patients (39 males, 33 females) patients scheduled for dental treatment of mandibular posterior teeth, were randomly allocated to ILA group (n=35) received ILA injection or IANB group (n=37) received the conventional IANB. Our primary outcome was to assess pain during the injection as well as pain and stress (discomfort) during dental treatment, using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) from 0 to 10 (0 = no pain, 10= the worst pain imaginable). Whereas; recording 24 hours postoperative complications were our Secondary outcomes.
