Filter by:Purpose: This study is a feasibility trial of an existing evidence-based behavioral parent training program with parents of preschool-aged children who were born deaf or hard of hearing (DHH). The hypotheses of this study are (a) that a randomized control trial of the Family Check Up with this population will be feasible, (b) parents will rate the intervention as acceptable, and (c) a signal of effect will be observable among intervention group parents compared to controls for the following outcome variables: child behaviors, parenting behaviors, and parenting sense of competence.
The purpose of this study is to determine if anakinra (an interleukin-1 receptor antagonist) can improve hearing thresholds in patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss that did not respond to oral steroid therapy. The patients to be enrolled will have recently completed a course of oral steroids and demonstrated no change in their audiometric thresholds following corticosteroid therapy. The investigators will be measuring hearing thresholds (Pure tone average and word recognition scores) before and after anakinra and correlating these findings with circulating IL-1 levels in the patient's blood.
Over the last few years, there has been a considerable interest in the development of screening tools to assess the capability of elderly cancer patients to tolerate anti-cancer treatment. Therefore, the NCCN Guidelines in Senior Adult Oncology recommend an assessment of co-morbid conditions that are likely to interfere with cancer treatment and tolerability. As presbyacusis is common in an older population, elderly cancer patients are at high risk for social isolation and a reduced quality of life. Therefore, in this project the investigators aim to validatie uHear™ as a quick and reliable screening tool to screen for presbyacusisf in routine clinical oncology practice.
Cochlear implant microphones are subject to aging and dirtying. The evolution may affect their efficiency. Several signal coding strategies are used in cochlear implants and their behaviour may be more or less affected by the aging process. In this work the investigators wish to assess this phenomenon.
This study aims to demonstrate that the investigational drug AUT00063 is effective and safe in the treatment of age-related hearing loss.
To evaluate the combination of electric hearing through Cochlear Implant and acoustic hearing through hearing aid in bimodal users with moderate-to-severe hearing loss in the non-implanted ear. The research will also provide pilot study data on unilateral Cochlear Implant recipients with residual useful acoustic hearing in the implanted ear whose acoustic hearing has been preserved.
This study aims at investigating new automatic fitting techniques for cochlear implant patients based on objective measures. For this reason, the evolution of these neurophysiological measures, expressing the encoding of pure tones and speech, will be characterized in cochlear implanted patients as a function of post-implantation time and will be compared to those of normal hearing subjects. Moreover, the effect of auditory training with new tools based on serious games will be assessed.
This study is a feasibility study of the Nucleus 24 ABI in children without NF2. It will be conducted as a repeated-measures, single subject experiment in order to accommodate the known variability in cochlear implant clinical results. Data obtained in the course of this study will be compared with the existing published outcome data from children with normal hearing and with cochlear implants (CIs). These comparisons may provide additional useful information about the progress of ABI subjects' performance over time. Also, this may allow the results of the current study to be utilized to design future pivotal studies of the device in the pediatric population.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate audio quality benefit for the patient implanted with a Cochlear or Otologics Carina implant with the new firmware (feedback canceller algorithm) whatever the patient environment is and to evaluate the functional gain and speech understanding benefit for the patient upon the firmware used (new and reference firmware). The new firmware aims to adapt automatically for feedback cancellation without prior calibration.
