There are about 244 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Costa Rica. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
HPV testing for primary cervical cancer screening of women over 30 years of age is likely to become the standard of care in the near future in many areas of the world. Its high sensitivity can significantly improve the effectiveness of screening programs and its prolonged negative predictive value can allow extension of screening intervals. However, a single HPV test has low positive predictive value and can lead to unnecessary workup and over-treatment and generate unnecessary distress. This multi-centric study will screen 50,000 women with HPV testing and compare several triage approaches that can follow HPV testing in order to make an HPV-based screening programme efficient, affordable and sustainable.
The goal of this study is to determine if papaya fruits are an exceptionally good food source for carotenoids in humans, particularly when compared more common carotenoid sources like carrots and tomatoes. This objective will be accomplished by quantitation of the immediate post-prandial plasma concentrations of parent carotenoids and vitamin A metabolites from subjects who consumed a meal containing fresh papaya, tomato, and carrot.

This is a follow-up of the primary series vaccination schedule in Study A3L24 (NCT01177722). The objectives are: - To describe the antibody persistence to any antigen contained in the investigational DTaP-IPV-Hep B-PRP-T vaccine and Infanrix hexa™ prior to the booster dose - To describe the safety and immunogenicity of the booster dose of either DTaP-IPV-Hep B-PRP-T or Infanrix hexa™ vaccine. - To describe the immunogenicity of a booster dose of Prevenar™ given at 12 to 24 months.
This study will describe the long-term safety and effectiveness, treatment patterns,and patient reported quality of life associated with ranibizumab treatment in routine clinical practice for all approved indication included in the local product label.
Streptococcus pneumoniae is a major cause of pneumonia, sepsis, bacteremia and pneumococcal meningitis among infants and children worldwide. Knowledge of the epidemiology of pneumococcal disease is essential to assess the potential usefulness of pneumococcal disease usefulness of pneumococcal conjugate immunization. There is a paucity of information regarding pneumococcal disease burden in children in Latin America. Most studies are based on passive microbiology laboratory surveillance that does not capture all invasive disease, thus underestimating the true disease burden. Data from an active surveillance is available from an specific region in Costa Rica, before introduction of universal vaccination with PCV-7. On January 2009, PCV-7 was introduce into the universal vaccination program for all children born after or on September 2008 using a 3+1 regimen therefore there is a possibility to analyze the benefits of the introduction of this vaccine into the universal immunization program. The only effectiveness data from Latin America have been published from Uruguay where a significant decline in the incidence of pneumonias and meningitis was observed following the introduction of PCV-7. This was associated with an increment of serotypes 19A, 1,5 and 7F. Uruguay modify PCV-7 to PCV-13. In Costa Rica on August 2011, PCV-7 was changed for PCV 13. This study will provide information regarding the impact of PCV-7 and PCV-13.
The primary objective of this retrospective study is to evaluate the percentage of patients with device related adverse events (infection, rejection, dislocation, fracture of the implant) in the first 24 months after implantation.
The primary objective of this trial is to continue the provision of darunavir/ low-dose ritonavir (DRV/rtv) to adult and pediatric patients who previously received DRV/rtv in the clinical trials TMC114-C211, TMC114-C214, TMC114-TiDP31-C229 or in the pediatric trial TMC114-TiDP29-C232 who continue to benefit from the use of darunavir in combination with low-dose ritonavir (DRV/rtv), in countries where DRV is not commercially available for the subject, is not reimbursed, or cannot be accessed through another source (e.g., access program, governmental program) and to provide DRV through this trial until the participants can switched to locally available DRV-based treatment regimens (that is commercially available and reimbursed, or accessible through another source [for example, access program or government program]) or to local standard of care, as appropriate.
The purpose of this study is to generate immunogenicity and safety data of an investigational hexavalent DTaP-IPV-Hep B-PRP-T vaccine compared to a control vaccine, Infanrix hexa™ when given along with Prevenar™ and Rotarix™ vaccines. Primary Objectives: - To demonstrate the equivalence of immunogenicity of 3 lots of DTaP-IPV-Hep B-PRP-T vaccine 1 month after a 3-dose primary series (2, 4 and 6 months) when given with Prevenar™ and Rotarix™, in terms of immunoresponses. - To demonstrate the non-inferiority of the hexavalent DTaP-IPV-Hep B-PRP-T vaccine to the licensed hexavalent Infanrix hexa vaccine when given with Prevenar™ and Rotarix™. Secondary Objectives: - To describe in each group the immunogenicity parameters for all antigens for each vaccine - To assess the safety profile in terms of solicited and unsolicited adverse events and serious adverse events in each group for each vaccine.
