In the experimental setting inhibition of platelet activation was able to reduce immune-mediated necroinflammatory liver disease and consecutively hepatocellular carcinoma development. Therefore, antiplatelet therapy may not only have a preventive effect on hepatic artery patency but also on tumor recurrence. So far and to the best of our knowledge, no study investigated the effect of antiplatelet therapy on hepatic arterial patency, tumor recurrence and graft survival after primary liver transplantation.

Randomized Trial Comparing Gastric Bypass With and Without Cholecystectomy

The main objective of this pilot study is to show feasibility to collect peri-operative and postoperative clinical data of the study group of gastric bypass without cholecystectomy compared with the control group of gastric bypass with cholecystectomy. Our hypothesis is that the approach without cholecystectomy would be superior in terms of a decrease of perioperative adverse events and postoperative complications, as well as lenght of operation, lenght of hospital stay, overall costs with a very low risk of biliary complication in the follow up. These findings could be helpful to build a baseline for a future randomized controlled multicenter study allowing significance of these results and help orientate surgeons towards best surgical care of the gallbladder with confirmed absence of stones in the obese patient undergoing gastric bypass.

Differences in emotion processing and the underlying neural underpinnings of such differences will be assessed by means of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) without any contrast agent, combined with adapted emotion processing paradigms and eye tracking techniques.

Pain Modulation - Experimental Assessments Using Different Modalities

The goal of this study is to investigate how different painful stimuli are processed and modulated in the nervous system. In various pain conditions, including low back pain, often no specific source can be identified as the cause of the pain. Scientific findings point towards a possible involvement of sensitization processes in the central nervous system (spinal cord and brain) that can contribute to the development and persistence of chronic pain. There is a need for reliable and well established experimental methods to better investigate and understand these processes. Frequently used methods comprise the application of thermal, mechanical or electrical stimulations. These modalities are processed in different parts of the nervous system, each allowing its own conclusions. This can be an advantage, but it also poses a challenge regarding comparability and generalizability of obtained results. This study aims to apply and compare various experimental methods in people without and people with low back pain and shed light on the methodological differences. In the future, this could enable better identification and characterization of sensitization processes in the nervous system and build the basis for individually adapted, mechanism-targeted treatments with better patient outcomes.

This phase I trial studies the side effects of nivolumab before and after surgery in treating children and young adults with high grade glioma that has come back (recurrent) or is increasing in scope or severity (progressive). Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as nivolumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread.

Effect of Placing the Implant Crown on the Implant on the Same Day as the Implant vs. 4 Weeks Later.

In this study, participants with one lower first molar that require removal and replacement using dental implants will be enrolled. The implant will be inserted 12-16 weeks after tooth extraction and restored either immediately with an artificial tooth (fixed implant crown) in 50% of the cases or 4 weeks later in the remainder 50%. Immediate and early loading will be compared and the investigators expect no difference in terms of implant success and health of the tissue around the implant.

Bladder and TranscUtaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation for nEurogenic Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction

Many patients with neurological diseases suffer from neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD), which often severely impairs quality of life, due to urinary urgency with or without incontinence and voiding dysfunction. In addition, the upper urinary tract may be jeopardized because of high intravesical pressure caused by detrusor overactivity (DO) with concurrent detrusor-sphincter-dyssynergia and/or low bladder compliance. The treatment of NLUTD is a challenge since conventional conservative therapies often fail and more invasive treatments such as intradetrusor onabotulinumtoxinA injections, bladder augmentation and urinary diversion have to be considered. Neuromodulation therapies including tibial nerve stimulation (TNS) may be alternative non-invasive treatment options. Indeed, TNS is an effective and safe treatment for idiopathic overactive bladder proven in randomised controlled trials (RCTs), but its value in neurological patients is unclear. In a recent systematic review, the investigators found evidence that TNS might become a promising treatment option for NLUTD, however, more reliable data from well-designed RCTs are urgently needed to reach definitive conclusions. However, this study will be the first adequately sampled and powered, randomised, sham-controlled, double-blind trial assessing transcutaneous TNS (TTNS) for NLUTD. It will provide significant insights into the efficacy of TTNS in patients suffering from NLUTD and in the case that this treatment is really effective in the neurological population, the investigators findings would completely revolutionize the management of NLUTD in daily clinical practice. Moreover, this interdisciplinary clinical trial will relevantly influence the neurological and urological approach in the management of NLUTD promoting future collaborative projects improving patients' medical care and underlying the pioneering role of Switzerland in the rapidly developing and ambitious research field of neuro-urology.
