This is a randomized, double-masked dispensing study where subjects will randomized into one of two lens sequences to wear each of two contact lens types for a 4-week period with each lens type.
Recent changes in medical training environments and restrictive work-hour regulations have greatly impacted trainees, limiting the number of opportunities to gain proficiency in procedural skills. Reports suggest that medical residents lack confidence in their ability to perform certain medical procedures, and program directors often do not believe their residents can operate independently in major procedures. Simulator based task training (SBTT) has provided a safe and ethically appropriate method of skill acquisition but training opportunities remain limited. Methods to enhance motor learning during these training opportunities have not been described. Transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) is an emerging form of non-invasive brain stimulation that has been shown to improve motor learning. tDCS has been shown to enhance increasingly complex skill acquisition. The investigators propose to examine if tDCS can improve the acquisition and retention of laparoscopic surgical skill. The investigators propose a double blind, sham-controlled randomized trial applying tDCS during evidence-based SBTT of medical students and surgical residents, to determine if brain stimulation can enhance training effects and long-term skill acquisition. Even a modest enhancement carries the potential to transform medicosurgical skills training.
This was a Phase 3, multicenter, randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study evaluating the efficacy and safety of venetoclax plus bortezomib and dexamethasone in participants with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma who are considered sensitive or naïve to proteasome inhibitors and received 1 to 3 prior lines of therapy for multiple myeloma.
The goal of this study is to determine specific perfusion patterns for radiation induced lung changes and residual/recurrent lung malignancies in patients treated with stereotactic body radiotherapy SBRT and thus improve to distinguish radiation changes from residual/recurrent lung cancers. Currently CT is often unable to make a clear differentiation between benign and malignant changes in the lung after SBRT treatment necessitating additional wait time to perform follow up CTs or biopsies. Optimal treatment may be delayed. The investigators want to apply a CT perfusion sequence in addition to the routine follow up CTs with the goal to obtain perfusion values of post treatment lung changes and lung tumours. The investigators' hypothesis is that CT perfusion values will help differentiate benign post radiation changes from residual/recurrent tumour in the lung with higher confidence and may help avoid unnecessary delays in cancer treatment.
Persons who inject drugs (PWID) are overrepresented among hepatitis C infected patients, but underrepresented among those who are treated, despite many studies showing that treatment is feasible and effective in this population. The hepatitis C diagnosis and pre-treatment evaluation are multistep processes. Every step is a potential occasion for disengagement and loss to follow-up. This is especially true with hard-to-reach populations such as PWID in whom competing needs are numerous and psychosocial situation can change rapidly. By using new technologies that can quickly provide clinical results, like Xpert HCV Viral Load (Cepheid) and transient elastography (fibroscan), a provider could determine if a patient needs treatment rapidly or not on the day of the initial visit. The aim of this study is to explore whether an accelerated pre-treatment evaluation can result in an improved linkage-to-care (defined as linkage to health care, addiction or social services) and, eventually, linkage-to-treatment among PWID.
This is a randomized clinical trial investigating the utility of apneic oxygenation via nasal cannulae in the post-induction setting for the purpose of prolonging the safe apneic time. Three groups will be compared, a control group at 0 L/min, a 15 L/min and a 60 L/min group. The primary outcome will be the difference in the partial pressure of oxygen in arterial blood (PaO2) between groups throughout the nine-minute apneic period.
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and tumor-shrinking ability of experimental medication BMS-986179 alone and when combined with Nivolumab, in patients with solid cancers that are advanced or have spread.
The purpose of this study is to compare a motor learning (ML)-based gait-related training intervention to a functional lower limb strength training intervention, with a concurrent evaluation of functional, neural and participation outcomes for children and youth with Cerebral Palsy (CP). This study is a two-group, parallel arm RCT in which twenty-two children with CP in GMFCS Levels I-II will be randomly allocated to a 6-week, 16 session program of: (i) ML based gait training or (ii) lower limb strength training. Outcome assessments occur pre/post/4-months post-intervention.
Follow-up for durability of sustained virologic response, changes in liver function and safety in patients with SVR24 in feeder studies
Although randomized controlled trials (RCTs) provide evidence of efficacy, generalization of these results to patients in the real-world setting is challenging, given RCTs are conducted in highly selected patient populations. An understanding of the effectiveness of approved cancer therapies in routine clinical practice is essential in order to optimize the management of these patients and to identify treatment and monitoring gaps. This is the first Canadian study to describe real-world treatment patterns/sequencing, effectiveness and monitoring for men and pre/postmenopausal HR+ HER2- advanced breast cancer patients. This registry incorporates an observational prospective cohort design and will enroll 500 men and pre/postmenopausal HR+ HER2- advanced breast cancer women that have been exposed to endocrine therapy (ET) or ET in combination with targeted therapy (TT) including patients receiving CDK4/6 inhibitor therapy combinations..
