NCT ID: NCT05267522 Completed - Clinical trials for Hypercholesterolemia

Independent Effects of High-cholesterol (High-egg) and High-saturated Fat Diets on LDL-cholesterol

Start date: March 1, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study will comprise a randomized controlled, counter-balanced, cross-over trial to evaluate the independent effects of a high cholesterol (high egg), low saturated fat diet and a high saturated fat, low cholesterol diet on blood lipids. Evaluations also include analysis of physical activity as there is emerging evidence that the lutein and zeaxanthin in egg yolk may increase physical activity levels by crossing the blood-brain barrier and altering neuronal function. The study will also investigate effects on a number of novel lipoprotein parameters (particle size and particle concentrations).

NCT ID: NCT05266014 Completed - Stargardt Disease Clinical Trials

This is a Dose-finding Study Followed by 2-year Extension Study to Evaluate Safety and Tolerability of Tinlarebant in Adolescent Subjects With Stargardt Disease

Start date: March 12, 2021
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Stargardt disease 1 (STGD1) is the most prevalent form of juvenile macular degeneration. It is caused by a rare, inherited autosomal recessive trait, leading to severe and irreversible blindness by the first or second decade of life. Earlier onset of the disease is related to a rapid vision loss, while patients with a later onset tend to have a better prognosis. This study will enrol subjects aged 12-18 years old with a confirmed clinical diagnosis of Stargardt disease type 1 (STGD1). This study will include 2 phases, the phase 1b portion is to determine the optimal dose for phase 2 based on the extent of retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4) reduction after 2 cycles of tinlarebant treatment. The phase 2 portion will evaluate the safety and efficacy of a single daily dose of tinlarebant over a 24-month treatment period.

The aim of this study is to detect the presence of SENS-401 in the perilymph of participants undergoing cochlear implant surgery after 7 days of oral administration of SENS-401.

NCT ID: NCT05256316 Completed - COVID-19 Clinical Trials

Risks of Bacterial and Fungal Superinfection in Patients With COVID-19

Start date: February 14, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Infection with bacteria or fungi can be deadly. Often, these types of infections can lead to an increase in the severity of illness requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission, prolonged duration of treatment and further risks associated with additional infections and superinfections. These are also called hospital acquired secondary infections. Patients who contract COVID-19 and require an ICU admission are at increased risk of contracting these secondary infections, and receive certain medications that can lower your body's immune response. In COVID-19 patients who require these treatments, it is unclear what affect these medications can have on developing an additional infection as well as the rate of recovery/survival. This study is evaluating the effect these medications have on the development of secondary infections and rate of survival of COVID-19 patients that have been admitted to ICUs.

NCT ID: NCT05253417 Completed - Insomnia Clinical Trials
