Filter by:Coordinated multi-center project with several complementary goals in each one of the sub-projects included. Objectives: 1.To determine risk factors of death, or major complications in the short term; 2.To determine risk factors of death, tumor recurrence, major complications, readmission or deterioration of quality of life in the mid term; 3.Evaluation of patient reported outcomes from before the intervention to the end of the follow-up. 4.To study the role of immunohisto-chemistry markers in the prediction of similar adverse results. This sub-project (coordinator) will approach the determination of risk factors of death, tumor recurrence, major complications, readmission and deterioration of quality of medium term life (1-2 years). Methodology. Design: prospective cohort study with 2 years follow-up after the surgical intervention. Participant centers: 18 hospitals of 6 Autonomous Communities of all Spain. Patients diagnosed of colorectal cancer surgically intervened. Variables: pre-intervention, those of the hospital admission, sociodemographic, immunohisto-chemistry and clinical parameters, that could be in relation to the outcomes to study. Statistic analysis: a derivation sample will be created where the possible predicting parameters will be identified, by cancer of colon or rectum. Predictive models will be created with a good discriminative capacity. A validation of those models will be performed in a validation sub-sample. Logistic and Cox regression models will be used. Simulation models for the prediction of discreet events in the long term will be used.
This study tests biopsy and tissue from patients who have been treated for primary rectal cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital between 2011 and 2013, who have an mrTRG score at post-chemoradiotherapy MRI. It is a retrospective pilot study to determine the apoptotic and proliferative index count pre and post chemoradiotherapy.
This is a study examining the effects of different educational-motivational materials about colorectal cancer screening on perceptions and intentions to get screened. Eligible participants will be randomized to one of three experimental conditions. All participants will be provided information about colon cancer and screening options based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Screen for Life materials. Some participants also will be asked to read a personal narrative about colon cancer screening. This study will determine whether participant's perceptions about and colorectal cancer screening intentions and behaviors differ by which information they read. Participants will complete surveys before, immediately after, and one month after randomization. To assess behavior change, as suggested by grant reviewers and the project officer, we added 6 and 12 month follow up surveys. - To investigate whether cetuximab alone (given until progression or cumulative toxicity) after 8 cycles of FOLFIRI + cetuximab results in a non inferior Progression Free Survival when compared with continuous FOLFIRI + cetuximab (given until progression or cumulative toxicity). - To assess whether an improvement in the incidence of grade 3-4 hematological and non-hematological adverse events (AEs) can be achieved in the experimental arm (cetuximab alone after 8 cycles FOLFIRI + cetuximab) as compared to the continuous chemotherapy arm (FOLFIRI plus cetuximab) - To explore the possibility of using liquid biopsies for molecular profiling as well as monitoring treatment activity in mCRC pts receiving cetuximab based therapy
This study aims to investigate the comparative effectiveness between polyp removal with or without electrical current. The investigators want to include 600 polyps in the trial. It is known that polyps have the potential to develop to cancer if left in situ, but the investigators do not know the best way to remove them completely.
The main purpose of this study is to promote colorectal cancer (CRC) screening among individuals who have never been screened, with these individuals being members of a panel who participant in online studies. The primary study goals are to test effects of the matching between level of comparative risk feedback for colorectal cancer (CDC), that is, how one's risk compares to others, and message framing (Gain vs. loss frame) on CRC screening intentions and screening as well as mediators of effects in the context of people who obtain CRC risk feedback and framing messages online (i.e., Internet).
Experts believe that increasing the low uptake of screening for colorectal cancer (CRC) requires educating patients about all approved tests and helping them choose one that fits their preferences. As one motto puts it: "The best test is the one that gets done." Screening tests range from more invasive and very sensitive for polyps and cancer (colonoscopy) to less invasive and less sensitive (e.g., fecal immunochemical testing (FIT)). But it is unclear how best to educate patients about the options and the tradeoffs involved. Some guidelines recommend that decision aids, a promising tool in this area, provide patients with detailed quantitative information, including baseline risk, risk reduction, and chance of negative outcomes. But this sort of "comparative effectiveness" data can confuse patients, especially those with limited mathematical ability. Previous studies have not measured the effect of providing quantitative information to patients with varying levels of ability or interest or asked them whether such data is essential for their decision-making. The investigators will conduct a clinical trial to determine the impact on patients who view a decision aid (DA) that includes quantitative information versus a DA without such data. The investigators will also seek to determine whether numeracy moderates the effect of quantitative information.
It has been shown that RFA induced systemic tumor antigen-specific T cell responses in human carcinoma. However, there are insufficient studies on the immune modulation of tumor microenviroment (TME) outside of the ablation zone. In order to study how RFA modifies TME in human cancer patients, investigators performed a retrospective study of a unique cohort of patients who suffered from synchronous CRCLM.
Iron deficiency has a high prevalence in colorectal cancer patients ranging at ca. 60%. About 70% of these patients suffer from iron deficiency anemia (IDA) which adds both physical and cognitive impediments to an already straining chemotherapy. Moreover, a chronic disease like cancer often results in a reduced availability of iron for the body. In clinical practice iron substitution is usually administered orally. Due to low resorption rates, frequent gastric side effects and thus poor patient compliance a parenteral substitution seems to be a better option in terms of efficacy. In the framework of a randomized multicenter clinical trial ('FerInject') a comparison of efficacy parameters of parenteral vs. oral iron substitution will now be conducted in order to identify the best treatment form for clinical practice in oncology. Furthermore detailed quality of life-data (QoL) will be collected in both treatment arms for effect comparison.
The purpose of the study is to measure high grade (3-5) toxicity of regorafenib and to monitor the impact of treatment with regorafenib on the quality of life in older adults with metastatic colorectal cancer.
