Two metaanalyses of studies on the prognostic significance of circulating cancer cells in colorectal cancer indicated, that the presence of circulating tumour cells (CTC) in the peripheral blood is the negative prognostic factor. However there is no sufficient evidence that disseminated tumour cells (DTC) in the bone marrow of the colorectal cancer patients influence the prognosis. There is the evidence that right-sided and left- sided cancers may have different biology and different prognosis. Therefore in this study the investigators concentrated on the left colon and rectum locations with the locally advanced cancer being the main area of interest. The aim of this study was to analyse the relation of DTC with the tumor characteristics, cancer progression and survival in left sided colorectal cancer.

EXERCISING TOGETHER for Couples Coping With Cancer

The Exercising Together trial is a single-blind, parallel group, randomized controlled trial comparing 3 arms: Arm 1 (experimental): Exercising Together where couples perform partnered exercise in a supervised, group setting versus two comparator conditions where survivors and partners perform exercise routines separately in either a supervised group setting (Arm 2) or unsupervised at home (Arm 3). All three arms will train for a 6-month period and then be followed 6 months later. Data will be collected at baseline, 3, 6 and 12 months.

Study HS-CA102N-101 is a phase 1, two part (dose escalation, dose expansion), multicenter, non-randomized, open-label, multiple dose, first-in-human study of CA102N monotherapy and of CA102N combined with trifluridine/tipiracil (LONSURF) in subjects with advanced solid tumors. CA102N will be evaluated in subjects with locally advanced or metastatic solid tumours for which no effective therapy is available in Part 1 (dose escalation) and in subjects with relapsed or refractory locally advanced or metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) after prior oxaliplatin and irinotecan-based chemotherapy in Part 2 (dose expansion).

Evaluation of the Efficacy and Safety of Single Dose Tranexamic Acid in Reducing Blood Loss During Colorectal Cancer Surgery

A total of 46 patients scheduled for explorative laparotomy with the aim of radical debulking surgery for colorectal cancer will be randomized into two equal groups one will receive tranexamic acid and one placebo. The TA group will receive an intravenous bolus of (10 mg/kg) in 100 ml of normal saline over 20 minutes after induction of anesthesia and before surgical incision. In the control group, patients will receive a placebo of 100 mL 0.9% normal saline. The primary endpoint is reduction in blood loss, while the secondary endpoint was the number of patients needing transfusion and occurrence of postoperative thrombotic complications (myocardial infarction, stroke, pulmonary embolism, renal failure, or bowel infarction) within 30 days after surgery.

Immunophenotyping of Metastases From Colorectal Cancer

Immune therapy represents a promising option for the treatment of an increasing number of malignancies. New immunotherapeutic strategies are currently under development and will be further studied starting from refractory settings of heavily pre-treated mCRC patients. On this basis, a specific immunological characterization of CRC metastasis will be relevant to direct future clinical and pharmacological research. As surgery is a therapeutic option in the treatment of mCRC, a percentage of mCRC patients undergo to resection of metastasis before or after medical treatment. These tumour samples could be useful to define the immune signature of colorectal metastatic disease. On the basis of the above reported considerations, an exploratory, prospective, observational study for the immunophenotypical characterization of colorectal cancer metastasis from pre-treated vs chemo-naive patients has been planned.
