Patients' Opinions and Responses to the National Cancer Institute's Colorectal Cancer Risk Assessment Tool

Little is known about the impact of risk assessment tools on decision-making by patients and clinicians. In particular, even though the NCI Colorectal Cancer Risk Assessment Tool is one of the most prominent risk assessment tools available, no study has quantified its usability or impact on decision-making or uptake of screening. In this study, we will measure patients' satisfaction with the NCI CRC RAT, their perception of its usability and helpfulness, and its impact on their decision-making and behavior. In addition, we will assess the impact of adding information about their chance of having an advanced adenoma.

NSABP Patient Registry and Biospecimen Profiling Repository

This is a study to collect and analyze tissue specimens from metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients for the development of a molecularly profiled tissue repository for the primary purpose of maintaining a patient registry for future clinical trials based on the molecular profile of the tumors. The main purpose of testing these tissue specimens is to identify genetic alterations or biomarkers associated with colorectal cancer such that if new agent(s) become available, particularly those that target these genetic alterations/biomarkers, participants may be offered the opportunity to take part in a National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) treatment protocol.

Peripheral Blood DNA Methylation Markers for the Early Detection of Colorectal Carcinoma in the Egyptian Population

The incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) is on the rise on a global scale. The number of cancer-related deaths related to CRC is also rising to an alarming level. This picture is similarly seen in Egypt where the incidence of colorectal carcinoma is increasing annually, moreover, CRC in Egypt exhibits an alarming characteristic which is the affection of much younger patients than their counterparts worldwide. Fortunately, the early detection of CRC and its precursor (adenoma) has been shown to markedly decrease morbidity and mortality related to this tumor, this has prompted the development of robust screening programs for CRC in several western countries. The implementation of a CRC screening program in Egypt has been hampered by the low compliance of the patients and the relatively high cost of colonoscopy. There is a need for an affordable, non-invasive, simple, accurate and socially accepted screening test to allow such a program to succeed in Egypt. Recent studies have shown that DNA is the future target of screening tests for several malignancies. Particularly for CRC a few preliminary studies have shown encouraging results with separate DNA methylation markers both in blood and stool. In our efforts to develop a screening test with the criteria stated above, the investigators have decided to join the forces of 2 of the largest medical centers in Egypt and the middle-east: Kasr-Alaini hospital and the National cancer institute (NCI). The investigators plan to test a panel of 7 DNA methylation markers in peripheral blood for their performance as an early marker for CRC and colorectal adenomas. Data from this study will pave the way for the development of a screening test for CRC "tailored" to the Egyptian population, moreover, it will supply essential data about the genetic alterations occurring in CRC in Egyptian patients.

Medical Records Review to Describe the Patterns of KRAS Testing and Vectibix Use in Europe

This non-interventional retrospective medical record review study will assess the prevalence of KRAS testing and the impact of the KRAS test result on patterns of Vectibix use in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) treated with Vectibix in selected European countries over 3 rounds. As the optimal use of Vectibix also requires accurate KRAS mutation testing, this study will also assess data from the laboratory that performed the KRAS test. The study will also monitor changes in the pattern of Vectibix treatment between the different rounds of the study.
