Stoma Closure and Reinforcement Trial

Hernia formation at sites of ostomy closure is a common complication. The investigator believes that using evidence based hernia repair techniques as a preventive measure during closure of ostomies will reduce the incidence of hernia formation. In this trial, the investigator will pilot a novel technique of large pore monofilament polypropylene mesh reinforcement of the abdominal wall defects that remain after closure of an ileostomy to evaluate for safety and begin to evaluate the effectiveness compared to standard techniques.

Early Closure Versus Conventional Closure in Postoperative Patients With Low Anteriresection for Rectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer worldwide is the third most common in men and the second in female, although mortality is not as high as its incidence, there is less survival in developing countries. According to data from the World Health Organization, in 2012, there were an estimated 1.4 million cases and 693,900 deaths from this disease. Patients with rectal cancer are frequently taken to resection surgery as a curative management of their malignant pathology, according to the type of resection or reconstruction. In a high number of cases, they are management with colorectal anastomosis with a derivative ileostomy in the same procedure. The closure of this ileostomy is usually done after two to three months of the procedure, however in our environment it could take up to six or twelve months, during which time the patient is exposed to social difficulties, management problems and complications, derived from it. The early closure (7-12 days of its creation) of an ileostomy, despite the little evidence, seems to be a safe, feasible procedure that would save the patient having to live temporarily with an ileostomy.

Primary objective - Evaluate the efficacy in terms of progression-free survival (PFS) of aflibercept in combination with FOLFIRI in patients treated routinely for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) after failure of treatment with oxaliplatin + EGFR. Secondary objective - Evaluate the efficacy of aflibercept in combination with FOLFIRI on the 2-year overall survival rate and the objective response rate. - Evaluate the tolerance profile of aflibercept in combination with FOLFIRI. - Observational study, national, multicenter, cohort, prospective without intervention on the therapeutic strategy.•

Herbal Treatment to Improve Chemotherapy Delivery

This study is designed to:(1) determine the efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) 'Tonifying Spleen and Kidney Sequential Regimen' (TSKSR) in improving the completion rate of 8-cycle CapeOX chemotherapy in patients with stage II (high-risk)& III colon cancer;(2) evaluate the efficacy of the TCM-TSKSR on adverse events of CapeOX chemotherapy and it's impact on patients' quality of life (QoL).A randomized,double-blinded,placebo-controlled clinical trial including seven centers will be conducted in Mainland China.The study will enroll patients with stage II (high-risk)& III colon cancer who have completed radical surgery and are going to receive CapeOX chemotherapy.All participants will receive chemotherapy as prescribed by their treating physicians and be randomly assigned to either concurrent use of TCM-TSKSR or placebo.
