The overall aim of the present 9-week intervention study is to determine how a healthy drinkable in between meal affects cognitive function and brain activity in healthy adults 70 years and older. Secondary, the study also investigates the impact of the intervention on low grade inflammation, immune function, gut health, body composition, physical function, and well-being as secondary or exploratory outcomes. The present study has as the potential to prevent or slow down the onset of cognitive decline as it targets healthy older adults and gives additional insight regarding secondary and exploratory outcomes.

Square Step Exercises in Healthy Young Adults

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of Square Stepping Exercise and aerobic exercise on cognitive function and physical fitness in young adults. Participants aged 18-30 with low physical activity levels will be randomly assigned to either the Square Stepping Exercise Group or Aerobic Exercise Group. Both interventions will be supervised by a physiotherapist, performed twice a week for 40 minutes over 4 weeks. Cognitive function will be assessed using various tests, including attention, short-term memory, and executive function evaluations. Physical fitness will be evaluated through jump tests and balance assessments. Blinded assessors will conduct evaluations at baseline and post-intervention in both groups to determine the impact of square stepping exercise and aerobic exercise on cognitive and physical health in young adults.

Resistance Training on Growth Factors

The goal of this clinial trial study is to explore the effect of high or low intensity resistance training (LIRT) under similar training volume on change in serum levels of BDNF, IGF-1, VEGF, irisin, and plasma Hcy in young adults.The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. Whether high and low intensity will increase the serum levels of BDNF, IGF-1, VEGF, irisin, and reduce plasma Hcy. 2. whether a greater magnitude of change would be suffer in low intensity group when compared to high intensity group, as an effect of greater physiological adaptation produced by more repetitions required to complete. Participants will performe two different intensity resistance training (HIRT, at 80%1RM with 12 repetitions and 4-5 sets and LIRT, at 40%1RM with 24 repetitions and 4-5 sets). Researchers will compare the training effects of two different training on these growth factors.

Evaluation of Executive Functions in Children With Cochleovestibular Deficit

Vestibular system activity supports many functions ranging from gaze stabilization and postural control to high-level cortical functions involving spatial cognition, body perception, verticality perception, orientation, navigation, and spatial memory. Few studies have assessed the impact of a vestibular deficit on executive functions taking into account the simultaneous existence of sensorineural deafness in a child population. The BRIEF questionnaire (Behavioral Rating Inventory of Executive Function) allows a parental assessment of executive functions and is validated from the age of 5. Children were recruited from a pediatric population followed in the Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) department for audio-vestibular assessment and BRIEF questionnaire was completed by the accompanying parent.

Cognitive - Motor Dual Task and Swallowing

Swallow and dual-task are a current issue and there are few studies on this subject. These studies have shown that as a result of dual-task interaction, swallowing is affected by attention and cognitive capacity, and dual-task negatively affects swallowing performance. But, studies include simple cognitive tasks and are not suitable for daily living activities. There is no study that compares all visual, auditory and motor dual tasks during swallowing and considers the effects on liquid, thick and solid foods similar to daily living activities. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of visual, auditory and motor dual-task on swallowing and chewing function in healthy young adults. As a result of the study, the dual-task that has the most impact on swallowing and chewing function will be determined, and visual, auditory and motor performance changes will be revealed as well as swallowing and chewing functions. It is planned that the results obtained will guide the rehabilitation of swallowing disorder with further studies on dual-task exercises.

Background: Cognitive frailty is an at-risk state of dementia that it can be reversed by manipulating the lifestyle factors, such as cognitive activity and nutrition/dietary pattern. Their protective effects depend on a prolonged adherence to these factors. However, in the literature, most of the cognitive interventions are centred-based and supervised. Nutrition intervention depends on the provision of supplement or a complimentary supply of food. There is a lack of interventions with components of sustaining cognitive and nutrition training effect for the community-dwelling older people with cognitive frailty in home settings. Objectives: This study aims to examine the feasibility and preliminary effects of a gamified, home-based, cognitive-nutritional training (GAHOCON) programme for community-dwelling older people with cognitive frailty on protective diet adherence, cognitive function, frailty nutrition, and body composition.

Effect of Sprint Interval Training and Intermittent Fasting on Cognitive Function

Several lifestyle modifications, such as manipulating diet and exercise, have been shown to enhance cognitive function. This study aims to determine if a combination of Sprint Interval Training (SIT) and Time Restricted Eating (TRE) elicits greater enhancements in cognitive function than either of these interventions alone. SIT and TRE have both been proven to have high adherence rates and require minimal lifestyle changes, therefore the implementation of these may allow for a feasible method of improving cognition in healthy populations. A group of young adults will be randomized into either a SIT group, TRE group, or a SIT+TRE group. To assess the changes in cognitive function, cognitive tests will be performed at baseline and biweekly. Secondly, we will be monitoring the differences in the three groups in terms of body composition, which will be measured using a BodPod. It is hypothesized that the SIT+TRE group will display the greatest improvements in cognitive function and body composition versus the TRE only group and the SIT only group.

The main goal of this project is to study the mechanisms of epileptic activities using intracranial macro and micro electrodes in epileptic patients undergoing pre-surgical investigation. The recordings will also be used to study physiological mechanisms like sleep and different cognitive functions.
