The Effect of Baduanjin on Physical Fitness and Bone Density in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients

Start date: April 1, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of 12-month Baduanjin exercise on physical fitness and bone density in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients. 50 MHD patients aged 18-75 will included in this study and randomly divided into two groups (intervention group and control group). The intervention group will be led by a professional person and underwent Baduanjin exercise three times a week before hemodialysis. The control group maintained routine treatment and daily activities.

NCT ID: NCT06320704 Recruiting - Bone Density Clinical Trials

Occlusal Balance Effect on Mandibular Bone Density by Using Fractal Analysis in Complete Denture Patients (Split-Mouth Study)

Start date: March 21, 2024
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

Although the number of individuals who are edentulous is declining, a sizable fraction still needs a complete denture for their oral rehabilitation.Tooth loss is an issue in public health that determines quality of life since it is linked to socioeconomic, physiological, and psychological aspects. In patients who are completely edentulous, dental implants have been viewed as a favorable choice for rehabilitation.

NCT ID: NCT06222931 Recruiting - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

Effects of Whole Body Vibration in Different Devices on Bone and Muscle Mass in Postmenopausal Women

Start date: January 15, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Postmenopausal women suffer from a series of negative health factors, such as decreased bone and muscle mass and physical performance, increasing the risk of falls and decreasing quality of life. Therefore, intervention strategies aimed at mitigating these factors are essential. A technique that has been studied and can reverse these factors is whole-body vibration (WBV), however studies present contradictory results and the main confounding factor appears to be related to the type of vibration (synchronous or side-alternating). Therefore, the primary objective of this project is to verify the effects of 12 months of whole-body vibration on different devices on bone mineral density measurements in postmenopausal women. As a secondary objective, the effects on muscle mass, physical performance, quality of life and falls will be verified. 228 postmenopausal women will participate in the study and will be randomized to: triplanar vibration (synchronous); side-alternating vibration; or false vibration. The interventions will last 12 months and will occur three times a week on non-consecutive days. The following assessments will be carried out at baseline, 6-months and 12-months: bone mineral density and muscle mass by DXA equipment, muscle thickness by ultrasound, peak torque of the knee extensor and flexor muscles by an isokinetic dynamometer, hand grip, balance static postural and vertical jump on a force platform, dynamic balance using the Timed Up and Go test, SPPB battery, fear (FES-I) and incidence of falls and quality of life (SF-36).

VITamin D and OmegA-3 TriaL: Interrelationship of Vitamin D and Vitamin K on Bone (VITAL)

Start date: July 1, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Vitamin D supplements are widely promoted for bone health. Both vitamin D and vitamin K are important for deposition of calcium in bone, but little is known about the relationship of vitamin K status and bone health.

NCT ID: NCT04439097 Not yet recruiting - Alzheimer Disease Clinical Trials

Effects of Multicomponent Physical Exercise Program and Mediterranean Diet in Alzheimer's Disease

Start date: September 15, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study is a randomized, parallel-group, single blinded controlled clinical trial. The general objective of this multicomponent physical exercise program (MPEP) associated with a Mediterranean Diet (MeDi) is to decrease the risk of falls and fractures through the improvement of the bone health and physical functions of people with Alzheimer Disease. Patients allocated to the intervention group will perform a MPEP with a MeDi during 6 months, with a frequency of 3 sessions per week, and approximately 45-50 minutes of duration each session. During the study, 4 evaluations will be carried out to assess the effects of the interventions on bone mineral density, gait, balance, and fall risk: ((1) Baseline (pre-intervention); 2) 1st post-intervention after 1 month; 3) 2nd post-intervention after 3 months; 4) Final, 3rd post-intervention after 6 months

NCT ID: NCT04332679 Completed - Bone Loss Clinical Trials

Non-resorbable Membranes Versus Titanium Meshes and Resorbable Membranes

Start date: September 1, 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objective of this study is to compare two surgical techniques for the treatment of the mandibular bone atrophies: Dense PTFE titanium-reinforced membranes (Group A) versus Titanium mesh covered with cross-linked collagen membranes (Group B). Therefore, the main purposes are to compare test and control regarding (i) the percentage of post-operative complications (ii) the three-dimensional bone gain (iii) histological, histomorphometrical and microCT outcomes (iv) perImplant bone loss and soft tissue parameters.

NCT ID: NCT04286334 Completed - Clinical trials for Surgical Procedure, Unspecified

Three-dimensional Bone Regeneration Using Custom-made Meshes With and Without Collagen Membrane

Start date: December 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The presence of alveolar ridge deficiencies is considered major limitation to achieve an implant-prosthetic restoration with high aesthetics and stability over time. Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) can be considered an effective solution for bone augmentation. The most advanced technology of GBR is the customized titanium mesh, which is developed with a fully digital work flow system. The aim of this study is to evaluate complications and bone augmentation rates after GBR, based on customized meshes with or without collagen membranes. After ethical committee approval, 30 patients with horizontal and/or vertical bone defects were enrolled and treated according to the study protocol. During reconstructive surgery (T0), patients were randomly divided into two study groups: 15 patients were treated by means of a custom-made mesh without collagen membrane (Group A - Control Group), while 15 patients were treated by means of a custom-made titanium mesh with a collagen membrane (Group B - Test Group). All sites were grafted with a mixture 50:50 of autogenous bone and xenograft and primary closures of surgical sites were obtained to ensure a submerged healing of the meshes. After 6 months (T1), re-entry surgery was completed to remove the meshes, evaluate the augmented volume and to place implants in the augmented sites. After 3 months (T2), soft tissue management was accomplished with implant exposure and a connective tissue graft, before prosthetic restoration (T3). Data collection included surgical and healing complications, planned bone volume (PBV) and reconstructed bone volume (RBV), pseudo-periosteum type, bone density, implant success, and crestal bone loss. A statistical analysis of recorded data was performed to investigate any statistically significant differences between the study group and statistical significance was set at a=0.05.
