Filter by:- To evaluate the efficacy of flexibly dosed aripiprazole in reducing serious behavioral problems in Asian children and adolescents with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, as measured by change from baseline to endpoint on the irritability subscale of the aberrant behavior checklist (ABC-I). - To evaluate the long-term safety and tolerability of flexibly dosed aripiprazole in the treatment of serious behavioral problems in Asian children and adolescents with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.
70 children and adults with autism spectrum disorders will be enrolled in a 1-year, single-blind treatment study. Assessments will be conducted at the beginning and end of the study, including measurements of nutritional, metabolic, and digestive status and assessments of autism severity and overall functioning. Half of the participants will be randomized into a treatment study, and half will be randomized to no changes in their current treatments. Treatments will be added in a sequential manner over 12 months, including vitamin/minerals, essential fatty acids, carnitine, digestive enzymes, and healthy, gluten-free, casein-free diets. A dedicated team of nutritionists, nurses, and physicians will support and monitor the participants throughout the study. A group of 50 neurotypical children and adults, of similar age and gender, will be included for comparison.

Researchers at Arkansas Children's Hospital Research Institute are conducting a study about mitochondrial function in children. The study involves up to 5 visits to Arkansas Children's Hospital with fasting blood draws, behavioral assessments, and/or questionnaires. This study is not currently recruiting, but continues to follow those who were enrolled. There is no cost for visits or study-related exams. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the long-term safety and tolerability of memantine in the treatment of autism in pediatric patients.
This study explores the effectiveness of chiropractic and neuromuscular reeducation as complementary and alternative medicine treatment approaches for autism. Our investigation maintains the following three hypotheses: 1. Spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) will reduce the presentation of autistic symptoms in children. 2. Spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) in conjunction with neuromuscular reeducation will reduce the presentation of autistic symptoms in children. 3. The presentation of autistic symptoms in children will significantly differ between the treatment groups of spinal manipulative therapy and spinal manipulative therapy in unification with neuromuscular reeducation.
This study is a trial of low frequency Repetitive Transcranial magnetic stimulation( rTMS) for subjects with autism spectrum disorders, specially targeting repetitive behaviors.
This study will use linear 2D ultrasound imaging to look at the brain of individuals diagnosed with autism and their siblings. This is called transcranial ultrasound (TUS). It is hypothesized that TUS will allow real-time imaging of the fluid spaces outside the brain and will further allow the imagining of brain areas important to language and social function.
