Filter by:Decreased bone strength is a serious medical problem present in many women with Anorexia Nervosa, or disordered eating. Women with weaker bones are more likely to suffer broken bones than women with normal bone strength. We are investigating whether a hormone that is naturally produced by the human body, called growth hormone, can help strengthen the bones of women with this type of disordered eating.
The purpose of this study is to examine whether body fat distribution changes that occur with weight gain in women recovering from anorexia nervosa are transient or persistent, and if they are associated with other features of Metabolic Syndrome.
The aim of the study are: 1. Retrospectively to study the clinical characteristics and features (somatic, psychological and social variables) of patients treated in Center for Eating Disorders, Odense University Hospital 1994-2004. 2. To study the predictive power of the psychosocial and morphometric data with regard to drop outs, relapse and outcome. 3. To investigate eating habits, social functions and quality of life in weight recovered and chronicly ill patients with eating disorder.
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of an anti-psychotic medication, Olanzapine, in achieving desired weight gain in patients identified as having Anorexia Nervosa, either restricting or binge/purge subtype. The study will also evaluate the possible beneficial effects of Olanzapine in reducing the severity of the obsessive and/or anxiety symptoms associated with this disorder.
This research examines the efficacy of a 5-session individual psychotherapy intervention designed to enhance readiness and motivation for change in individuals with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and eating disorder not otherwise specified. It is hypothesized that individuals randomly assigned to receive Readiness and Motivation Therapy (RMT) will have higher readiness and motivation scores and improved eating disorder and psychiatric symptomatology following the intervention than individuals assigned to a no-treatment control condition.
The aim of this study is to determine whether in-patient treatment is better then intensive out-patient group treatment for patients with concurrent eating disorder and personality disorder.
This study will compare specific family therapy, standard family systems therapy, and standard individual psychotherapy to determine which is most effective in treating adolescent anorexia nervosa.
The aim of this study is to investigate whether patients with anorexia nervosa have elevated plasma cholesterol levels and, if elevated plasma cholesterol levels influence drug transport by the ABC-transporter P-gp (P-glycoprotein, MDR 1/ABCB1). We will isolate peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and total RNA from the blood of patients with anorexia nervosa and healthy subjects as control. PBMCs will be used for quantitative cholesterol determination and for measuring the activity of P-gp using a FACS (fluorescence-activated cell sorting) method (rhodamine123 efflux). Total RNA will be used for quantitative expression analysis of P-gp by reverse transcriptase real time PCR.
This study will compare the effectiveness of family-based therapy versus individual psychotherapy for the treatment of adolescent anorexia nervosa.
The aim of this pilot study is to determine the safety and efficacy of risperidone for the treatment of anorexia nervosa. Hypothesis 1: Subjects on risperidone will show a more significant decrease in body image distortion and Eating Disorder Inventory -2 scores than subjects on placebo. Hypothesis 2: Subjects on risperidone will reach and maintain at or above 90% Ideal body weight sooner than controls.
