The Role of Vitamin D in Chronic Urticaria and Angioedema Treatment

This clinical study was designed based on our hypothesis that vitamin D plays an important role in chronic urticaria and that high dose supplementation with vitamin D in subjects with chronic urticaria will improve clinical response. This clinical study will investigate our hypothesis in three Specific Aims: 1. Determine whether high dosing vitamin D supplementation (4000 IU/day) reduces medication usage (primary outcome) and urticaria severity score (secondary outcome) in subjects with chronic urticaria as compared to low dosing (600 IU/day). 2. Determine if high dosing of vitamin D (4000 IU/day) is safe and well-tolerated in subjects with chronic urticaria with or without baseline vitamin D deficiency. 3. Investigate whether there is an association with serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels, vitamin D receptor mRNA expression, and chronic urticaria severity.

Drug Utilization and Safety Events Among Children Using Esomeprazole, Other Proton Pump Inhibitors or H2-receptor Antagonists

The purpose of this study is 1. To describe patient characteristics and drug usage among children that are prescribed esomeprazole for the first time and to compare them with patients who are prescribed other proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or H2-receptor antagonists for the first time. 2. To ascertain all incident hospitalized cases of angioneurotic oedema, pneumonia, gastroenteritis, failure to thrive, convulsions/seizures, acute interstitial nephritis and thrombocytopenia among new users in the three cohorts of esomeprazole, other PPIs and H2-receptor antagonists.

AMelioration of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitor Induced Angioedema Study

This is a multicenter study recruiting patients with angioedema induced by ACEI. Open-label treatment with subcutaneous Icatibant compared to a historic group of 47 patients with ACE inhibitor induced angioedema which the investigators have been previously treated in the investigators centers with current "standard" therapy (250 mg methylprednisolon and 2 mg clemastine). In cases with fast progression of edema after application the study-drug, a second application with icatibant could be necessary. Rescue medication and intervention.
