Intravenous sedation is used frequently for the relief of pain and anxiety associated with oral surgical procedures performed under local anesthesia. The purpose of this study is to learn about patient and surgeon satisfaction with sedation using Dexmedetomidine in combination with midazolam alone or with midazolam plus low dose ketamine while having wisdom teeth removed. The sedation produced by dexmedetomidine is unique in that it mimics natural sleep, a unique quality not shared by other drugs. Dexmedetomidine is often used in anesthesia in hospital operating rooms and has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the use planned in this study.

This study was conducted to determine and compare the safety and effectiveness of two neuromuscular blockers (rocuronium and vecuronium) at various doses in adults who are undergoing general elective surgery with sevoflurane anesthesia. Study participants received an intubating dose of a neuromuscular blocker (to enable insertion of a tube through the nose or mouth into the trachea to provide artificial ventilation). The intubating dose was followed by repeated bolus maintenance doses as needed, to maintain muscle relaxation. The time it takes to reach maximal effect of the neuromuscular blocker (onset time) after the intubating dose was measured and compared as the primary outcome.
Most teams use a left double-lumen tube. The double-lumen tube is available with or without a carinal hook. The hook is supposed to facilitate the positioning of the tube and avoid the mobilization of the tube during surgery. The use of double-lumen tubes with a hook is large in Europe and quite unknown in US. The literature is poor, containing only few case reports. The purpose of this research is to compare the two types of left double-lumen tube.
Once a child has been anaesthetised and is fully asleep, a special airway tube called a laryngeal mask is often inserted into their mouth to help with their breathing. This tube is removed just before the child wakes up. A new type of airway tube, called an i-gel airway, has been developed for children, which is hoped will be easier to insert, safer once in position, and will be less likely to cause a sore throat after the anaesthetic than a standard laryngeal mask. The adult i-gel airway has been available for adults since 2007, and early trials have shown very encouraging results.
The researchers wish to undertake a simulation based study to compare the speed of general versus spinal anesthesia for emergency cesarean delivery. Minutes may matter for the baby in an emergency. It is unknown which technique is quicker. Their hypothesis is that surgical anesthesia can be achieved as quickly with spinal as with general anesthesia.
