Filter by:Iron deficiency anemia is a common complication in patients who underwent gastrectomy and leads to a deterioration in patient's quality of life. Therefore iron supplementation is one of the important treatments in postgastrectomy patients. Taking an oral iron is an option for iron supplementation, but the postgastrectomy patients has poor absorption of iron due to their anatomic change. Accordingly, intravenous iron supplementation has been emerged as another treatment option, but there are only a few studies to evaluate the efficacy of intravenous iron supplementation compared with oral iron in patients underwent gastrectomy. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the iron supplementation method as intravenous injection of iron isomaltoside compared with oral iron in the treatment of postgastrectomy anemia. Gastric cancer patients who underwent curative gastrectomy more than 1 year ago and hemoglobin level lower than 11 g/dL will be included in this trial. After the registration, the patients will be randomly assigned to intravenous iron (n = 179) or oral iron groups (n = 179). Calculated dose of iron isomaltoside using Ganzoni formula will be injected intravenously in intravenous iron group and 160 mg/day of ferrous sulfate for 12 weeks will be taken in oral iron group. Hemoglobin and iron profiles at baseline and weeks 2, 4, 8, and 12 and quality of life score at baseline and weeks 12 period will be evaluated.

This community is commonly referred to as our hidden metabolic 'organ' due to their immense impact on human wellbeing, including host metabolism, physiology, nutrition and immune function. It is now apparent that our gut microbiome coevolves with us and that changes to this population can have major consequences, both beneficial and harmful, for human health. Indeed, it has been suggested that disruption of the gut microbiota (or dysbiosis) can be significant with respect to pathological intestinal conditions such as obesity and malnutritio, systematic diseases such as diabetes and chronic inflammatory diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), encompassing ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) . The role of the gut microbiome in human health and disease is becoming clearer thanks to high throughput sequencing technologies (HTS) as well as parallel recent developments in non genomic techniques.
The clinical symptoms of non transfusion dependent non severe aplastic anemia (NSAA) are often lighter than that of severe aplastic anemia. Clinical observation is often used and the treatment should be given according to the follow-up results of peripheral blood routine and the survival condition of the patients. In recent years, a number of studies at home or abroad have tended to intervene earlier. The risk of observation and waiting for disease progression is higher. Early immunosuppression should be considered. For the treatment of non transfusion dependent non severe aplastic anemia, the commonly used treatment regimen is androgen combined with CSA. But the investigators find that Levamisole hydrochloride (LMS) as a commonly used immunomodulatory drugs may be helpful to improving immune disorder symptoms in NSAA patients. Therefore,the investigators are conducting a prospective, randomized controlled study to compare the rate, side effects and long-term survival in non transfusion dependent patients with NSAA between the androgen+CSA group and the androgen+CSA+LMS group.
The Jiaxing Birth Cohort (JBC) is the largest prospective cohort study to explore prenatal risk factors, early life feeding practice and growth pattern/ adiposity in Chinese children.Between 1999 and 2013, 338 413 mother-child pairs were recruited in Jiaxing area in south-east China.Children of the recruited women were followed up at 1-2, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months of age, and subsequently followed up every 6 months to 36 months of age (toddler stage), and every year to 6-7 years of age before they went to school (pre-school stage). Follow-up rate was 70.8% at the toddler stage and 68.9% at the pre-school stage up to June 2013.
Fresenius Medical Care has developed a computer software programme called the Anaemia Control Management (ACM) software to assist in the anaemia management of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis. This trial is designed to assess the effectiveness of this ACM software on anaemia management in routine clinical practice. However, all ultimate decisions on therapeutic or diagnostic procedures, treatments, management of the disease, or resource utilisation will be at the discretion of the Investigator. The trial consists of a retrospective (historical) control period and a prospective (going forward) period. During the prospective period, the ACM will be used to assist the Investigators' decision making and will help the Investigators to administer a personalised intravenous (IV) iron and red blood cell stimulating agent (ESA) therapy, whereas treatment according to standard of care will be documented retrospectively for the same patients during the retrospective period of the trial. Thus, patients can serve as their own control.
Iron deficiency is the most prevalent nutritional deficiency and the most common cause of anemia .It is characterized by a defect in hemoglobin synthesis, resulting in red blood cells that are abnormally small (microcytic) and contain a decreased amount of hemoglobin (hypochromic).
Studies have shown that hip fractures have a significant perioperative blood loss. Postoperative anaemia is associated with a higher morbidity and mortality. Tranexamic acid is a safe and effective antifibrinolytic widely used to reduce blood loss in other forms of orthopaedic surgery and in traumatized patients. However, evidence on the effectiveness of TXA in lower extremity fracture care is more limited. Hip fractures represent a common orthopedic injury in a fragile patient population that often necessitates post-operative blood transfusion thereby putting the patient at additional risk of complications. The goal of this study is to assess if the use of tranexamic acid in patients with hip fractures will result in a reduction in blood losses and blood transfusion rates. Our hypothesis is that by providing intravenous TXA at the time of surgery will decrease the amount of preoperative and intraoperative bleeding thereby leading to a decreased need for postoperative transfusion. This a double blinded, placebo controlled, therapeutic trial in which the patients will be randomized to receive TXA or a placebo (saline solution). Treatment will be administered pre-operatively as well as at the time of surgical incision. The primary outcome will be need for blood transfusion. Secondary outcomes will include calculated perioperative blood loss, length of stay, and rate of thromboembolic events, and 90 day mortality.
To ascertain the risk factors of AA in ZheJiang Province of China at the moment, especially the comprehensive multiple factors risks. The author conducted a case-control research included 338 AA cases and 1464 controls. Subjects were surveyed using same standard questionnaire including personal data, past histories of diseases, family history and histories of occupational and daily exposure to harmful substances. Single and multiple Logistic regression analyses were made using SPSS17.0 on the dates to study potential factors in the development of AA.
