Filter by:This study will assess the influence of the High Cut-Off (HCO) CVVHD treatment on the disease progression in septic patients. The primary aim of the study is to evaluate whether HCO CVVHD leads to a significant improvement of the hemodynamic status (mean arterial pressure, vasopressor requirements) in septic patients in comparison to CVVHD treatment with conventional high-flux filters. For the HCO-group the investigators expect a 50% lower dosage of vasopressors needed to maintain an adequate organ perfusion.
The primary objective of the study is to demonstrate the efficacy of 60% ethanol lock solution in preventing major catheter related infections in critically ill patients.
Oxidative stress is associated with kidney damage in several different situations, including hypotension. In animal models it has been shown that the combination of n-acetylcysteine plus deferoxamine is superior to its isolate use in the treatment of several diseases. Thus the investigators aimed to determine if the administration of n-acetylcysteine plus deferoxamine could prevent renal failure in critical ill patients who develops hypotension.

This study is an observational analysis that monitors the effect of different dialysis methods on vancomycin levels when patients are critically ill. No changes are made to therapy based on levels, but levels are checked more frequently than normal. The primary dialysis methods being studied are SLED (slow-low efficiency daily) dialysis and intermittent hemodialysis. Vancomycin is the only medication being evaluated in this study. This study will provide detailed information on how to dose vancomycin in patients that are on dialysis in the intensive care unit.

Severe sepsis or septic shock with acute kidney injury shows high mortality in intensive care unit. A few studies have shown CRRT relating the clinical improvement seems to be related to the early initiation of therapy. But there is no consensus for proper time of CRRT may improve the prognosis. The study is a prospective randomized one center trial comparing two treatments in patients suffering from septic shock complicated with acute renal failure admitted to ICU, treated either early by CRRT (35 ml/kg/h) or by conventional RRT.
Acute kidney injury is associated with cardiopulmonary bypass during heart surgery and its pathogenesis is similar to that of ischemia-reperfusion injury. Remote ischemic preconditioning attenuates myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in patients undergoing coronary bypass surgery. The investigators hypothesize that such preconditioning reduces the incidence of acute kidney injury associated with cardiopulmonary bypass.
The objective of this study is to determine the feasibility of conducting a large scale randomized controlled trial comparing standard and renally adjusted dosage of antibiotics in the septic shock patients with acute renal dysfunction. We will use Piperacillin as the prototype antibiotic in our study.
