Filter by:This study aims to prospectively estimate the incidence of Respiratory virus (RV) infections in children with symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) or lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (SJCRH) using the FilmArrayTM System, a novel highly sensitive and rapid assay for RV detection. An aliquot from the leftover sample remaining after clinical diagnostic testing will be used for FilmArrayTM analysis. Patients will be accrued on the study over a one year period.
The purpose of this study is to collect epidemiological data in children and adolescents with chronic hepatitis B(CHB), in particular data on the prevalence of HBeAg positive disease with associated ALT levels , active HBeAg negative disease and decompensated CHB in the pediatric population. Family history and history of HBV transmission is essential to assess the course of the disease and can be used to determine the best mode of treatment This information will be used to assist with the feasibility and design of studies for the Novartis clinical pediatric development program, as the current epidemiology of ediatric CHB is not accurately known in Western countries or the rest of the world making pediatric studies difficult to plan and conduct. This study forms part of the Novartis Pediatric Investigational Plan, a post marketing approval commitment to the EMEA Pediatric Committee.
The working hypothesis is that the low HDL serum level predict favorable response to anti viral treatment in chronic HCV (genotype 1) viral infection. This might be used to improve the rate of sustained virologic response.
The SYNAGIS Registry was carried out in order to gather comprehensive real-world data on the use of palivizumab in children at high risk for serious respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) disease. This registry was designed as a post-marketing observational study, and conducted with the aim of collecting data on palivizumab administration, the risk factors for complicated RSV disease, frequency of hospitalizations, and drug adherence.

This was a multicenter, open-label study of oral brincidofovir (BCV) treatment of serious disease or conditions caused by double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) virus(es). Subjects received either a weight-based or a fixed dose of oral BCV once weekly (QW) or twice weekly (BIW) for up to 3 months until clinical disease was resolved or stabilized and/or viral DNA by polymerase chain reaction testing was negative for 4 consecutive weeks, whichever was longer. Under the first protocol amendment, adults and adolescents (≥13 years) received 200 mg or 300 mg BCV BIW (not to exceed 4 mg/kg total weekly dose) depending on the difficulty of treating their disease (i.e., Group 1 or Group 2, respectively), and pediatric subjects (≤12 years) received 4 mg/kg BCV BIW. Under the second protocol amendment, adults and adolescents (≥13 years), regardless of viral infection/disease, had a maximum weekly dose of 200 mg, i.e., 200 mg QW or 100 mg BIW; not to exceed 4mg/kg total weekly dose. Pediatric subjects (≤12 years), regardless of viral infection/disease, had a maximum weekly dose of 4 mg/kg, i.e., 4 mg/kg QW or 2 mg/kg BIW; not to exceed 200 mg.
This project comprises immunological and virological analyses within a prospective clinical study of Rituximab (Rtx)-treated blood group incompatible living donor (LD) renal transplant recipients compared to blood group compatible LD recipients without Rtx induction, and of living donor compared to deceased donor renal transplant recipients treated with tacrolimus (Tacr)/mycophenolate sodium (MPS). Aim of this project is to assess short- and long-term effects of immunosuppressive therapy (Rtx induction) and of living donation on immunological and histological parameters of graft outcome and on viral replication (BK virus (BKV), JC virus (JCV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein Barr virus (EBV)) with the potential to improve long-term graft outcome and to enable risk estimation of virus disease.
Treatment options are limited for the treatment of influenza. This study will collect blood from people who have been exposed to the influenza virus or who have received a seasonal influenza vaccine. The blood plasma will be used in a future clinical trial to treat people hospitalized with influenza.
The general aim of this study is to determine if 3 MIU of IFN-α5 in monotherapy, and 1,5 MIU of IFN-α5 combined with 1,5 MIU of IFN- α2b, are safe dose levels as well as to investigate the antiviral efficacy and pharmacodynamics (PD) of such doses and drugs in treatment-experienced HCV patients with genotype 1 chronic infection, after 29 days of treatment. It is also intended to determine pharmacokinetics (PK) of the safe dose achieved of IFN-α5 in monotherapy.
