Egypt has the highest prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in the world. In 2015, the prevalence of HCV RNA was found to be 7.0%.(1) The prevalence of HCV was studied in Rheumatoid arthritis in few studies(2,3), but to our knowledge, no previous work studied it in other rheumatologic diseases.

Efficacy of VIUSID® Plus GLIZIGEN® in Patients With Papilloma Virus Esophageal

A randomized, double-blind, phase II clinical trial was conducted versus placebo in 110 patients with esophageal human papillomavirus. The experimental group will receive the VIUSID® plus GLIZIGEN® nutritional supplements, administered on an outpatient basis for 3 months. The control group will receive placebo from Viusid plus Glizigen placebo. It is expected that patients in the experimental group have a 30% higher rate of elimination of the virus than patients in the placebo group after treatment. The study will be conducted in the Superior Digestive Tract consultation of the Institute of Gastroenterology of Havana, Cuba.

Fluid (including but not limited to, blood, urine, saliva, cerebrospinal fluid, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid) sample log-in, processing, relabeling, and storage is performed by the Masonic Cancer Center (MCC) Translational Therapy Lab (TTL).

Early Detection of Epstein-Barr Virus Related Disease.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is one of several herpesviruses that cause disease in humans. EBV virus has an oncogenic potential, and it has been associated with the development of a wide range of cancers. Previous studies have shown a close association between EBV and Post-Transplant Lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) in transplant recipients. As part of a preventive approach against PTLD, several transplantation units now monitor the occurrence of EBV-DNAemia after transplantation. However, there is little evidence to guide this strategy; nor is there consensus concerning either the best specimen to use for EBV analysis (whole blood or plasma). In this study investigators aim to optimise and validate a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-test for EBV-DNA on, respectively, whole blood, plasma and a combination of plasma and lymphocytes. The investigators wish to determine which of the three tests best predicts current and future risk of development of EBV-related diseases such as mononucleosis and PTLD.

Reversible Cerebral Vasoconstriction Syndrome and Varicella Zoster Virus

Among patients with thunderclap headache who were admitted to the four participating hospitals, who has diffuse segmental vasoconstriction on CT angiography or MR angiography will be eligible for the study. Participants who meet the definition of RCVS will be enrolled as the case-patients and others will be enrolled as control-patients. The RCVS group will be defined when two or more neurologists agree by the clinical features and angiographic findings. The result of tests for varicella zoster virus titer will not be opened to neurologists until the end of the study. For case and control patients, tests for varicella zoster virus infection are (1) Pre-existing virological markers (ex. VZV-IgG, IgM, and VZV PCR in CSF or Skin lesion if present) (2) VZV-specific cell mediated immune response (CMI) at the time of admission and one month later (3) VZV in blood measured by quantitative test of viral load with real-time PCR and digital PCR for latent viral load (4) Quantitative test of viral load with real-time PCR in saliva at time of admission and one month later. Reactivation or infection of VZV of patients with RCVS and controls will be compared.
