A multicenter, 3-arm randomized dose finding study in the UK to evaluate safety, tolerability and immunogenicity of a vaccine candidate against Covid-19. 150 healthy volunteers will be enrolled and receive two shots of the vaccine candidate. All participants who receive two doses of the vaccine candidate will be invited to participate in the Booster phase.

Hepatitis E Virus (HEV) infections are emerging in the Western world with a predominance of HEV genotype (gt) 3. Except for age older than 50 years, male gender, chronic liver disease and immunosuppressed status, no correlators with clinical outcomes have been identified so far. With this study, we want to examine viral factors associated with the morbidity and mortality of HEV infections in Belgium as well as find correlators with clinical outcomes.

COVID-19 - SARS-CoV-2 Community Contamination in Children and Adults (Dyn3CEA_Nosocor)

Unlike other respiratory viruses such as influenza and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) where the child is the essential reservoir and central vector of intrafamilial contamination, the child is likely to be a small player in the transmission of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome CoronaVirus 2 (SRAS-CoV2) infection. This study aims to describe the age category of the first contact, within 14 days before the appearance of the first symptoms of the index case in order to describe the age categories of this first contaminant, globally, in the group of children and finally in the group of adults. This work is intended to provide food for discussion and to justify the distancing and containment measures imposed on children when their isolation has a deleterious impact that has now been established for some children.

Predicting Severity and Disease Progression in Influenza-like Illness (Including COVID-19)

Respiratory infections such as colds, flu and pneumonia affect millions of people around the world every year. Most cases are mild, but some people become very unwell. Influenza ('flu') is one of the most common causes of lung infection. Seasonal flu affects between 10% and 46% of the population each year and causes around 12 deaths in every 100,000 people infected. In addition, both influenza and coronaviruses have caused pandemics in recent years, leading to severe disease in many people. Although flu vaccines are available, these need to change every year to overcome rapid changes in the virus and are not completely protective. This study aims to find and develop predictive tests to better understand how and when flu-like illness progresses to more severe disease. This may help to decide which people need to be admitted to hospital, and how their treatment needs to be increased or decreased during infection. The aim is to recruit 100 patients admitted to hospital due to a respiratory infection. It is voluntary to take part and participants can choose to withdraw at any time. The study will involve some blood and nose samples. This will be done on Day 0, Day 2 and Discharge from hospital, and an out-patient follow-up visit on Day 28. The data will be used to develop novel diagnostic tools to assist in rational treatment decisions that will benefit both individual patients and resource allocation. It will also establish research preparedness for upcoming pandemics.

A Phase III Clinical Study to Evaluate SYN023's Efficacy and Safety

This is a Phase 3, blinded, randomized study of SYN023 compared to a China licensed Human Rabies Immunoglobulin (a Rabies immune globulin from human sources, HRIG) for the prevention of rabies as part of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). The trial will enroll the World Health Organization (WHO) Category III rabies exposure subjects. The subject's death and rabies data will be reviewed by Data and safety monitoring board (DSMB) to confirm the safety. Besides, rabies vaccine would be administered after Study Drug in each group. This trial is proposed to further the licensure of SYN023 to provide an effective PEP alternative available to those exposed persons who need such a product. A placebo-controlled rabies trial is unethical thus HRIG is selected as the control group. Rabies immune globulin from equine and human sources (HRIG) have been evaluated in many trials and HRIG is the standard of care in China.

COVID-19 - Multicentre Study on Nosocomial Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 Virus: an Ancillary Study (NOSO-COR IMMUNO)

There are still uncertainties about the existence of protective immunity and the duration of protective antibodies in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. Serological testing is an appropriate tool for epidemiological investigations to assess the persistence of antibodies over time. The nature of the immune response induced by this virus is also poorly understood. This ancillary study aims at assessing the immunological characteristics of patients that participated in the NOSO-COR study at Hospices Civils de Lyon six and twelve months after the initial infectious episode. Two visits will be scheduled at 6 and 12 months (± 1 month) after the initial SARS-CoV-2 infectious episode, Blood, saliva and nasopharyngeal samples will be collected for seroprevalence and immunological investigation.
