Filter by:This is a single arm, open-label study in women from China who have Advanced (stage IVB) Recurrent or Persistent cervical cancer to ⑴assess the response rate (i.e., CR + PR) of Cisplatin combined with Topotecan in treatment of advanced (stage IVB) recurrent or persistent Cervical cancer; ⑵assess the toxicities of CT regimen in treatment of cervical cancer. Prior to treatment, written informed consent should be obtained from all patients. Eligible patients will be assigned to CT regimen. The CT regimen is topotecan 0.75 mg/m2 IV during 30minutes days 1, 2, and 3; followed by cisplatin 50 mg/m2 IV on day1, repeated every 21 days. The study will consist of two phases: the safety run-in phase and study phase.
This phase I study is designed to establish an optimal dose of paclitaxel, under a fixed cisplatin dose at 40 mg/m2, delivered every week for three weeks, as neoadjuvant therapy before radical hysterectomy in bulky (FIGO IB2 or FIGO IIA with primary tumor dimension > 4 cm) squamous cell cervical cancer. This study will be conducted at all branches of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. The starting dose of paclitaxel is 50 mg/m2, and will be escalated by increments of 10 mg/m2 to a maximum dose of 80 mg/m2. The drugs will be administered sequentially (paclitaxel first, followed by cisplatin) within one day every week for three cycles. A cohort of 3 patients, who are assessable for toxicity, is treated at each dose level. Each patient receives a fixed dose of paclitaxel and cisplatin, without modification. If none of the first 3 patients experiences a dose limiting toxicity (DLT, see definition below this paragraph), then escalation to the next dose level will proceed. If one patient develops a DLT, the cohort will be expanded to 6 patients. If no more than 1 of these 6 patients experiences a DLT, then escalation to the next dose level will proceed. The maximum tolerated dose (MTD) is the highest dose level at which no more than 1 of 6 patients experience a DLT. This dose level will be considered as the recommended dose for Phase II study. Although efficacy evaluation is not the main purpose of this study, a response rate of 60%, evaluated immediately before or at surgery, in all cases who have undergone 2 cycles of therapy is preset as a requirement for further phase II study using this regimen.The primary goal of NAC in cervical cancer is to improve the feasibility of surgical treatment, radical hysterectomy, without delaying the scheduled surgery or increasing the surgical risk or morbidity. Therefore, the definition of DLT for NAC is responded to this principle, in addition to the standard dose-limiting toxicity for phase I study.
The goal of this research study is to learn about quality of life, sexual functioning, and symptoms in women who have undergone abdominal radical trachelectomy for cervical cancer. This is an investigational study. Up to 100 patients will be enrolled in this study. All will be enrolled at MD Anderson.
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as carboplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Drugs such as cidofovir may make tumor cells more sensitive to radiation therapy. Giving cidofovir together with radiation therapy and chemotherapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of cidofovir in treating patients with stage IB, stage II, stage III, or stage IVA cervical cancer who are receiving chemotherapy together with radiation therapy.
Preventing cervical cancer is a public health concern. Since 2006 a quadrivalent vaccine for young women nine to twenty six years of age has been available to protect against the human papillomavirus (HPV) and to prevent some types of cervical cancer (Gardasil). The vaccine is an important health promotion tool to address the widespread prevalence of HPV and cervical cancer, but not all eligible young women receive the vaccine. The vaccine is most effective when administered to young women before their sexual debut. When the vaccine is given to young women less than 18 years of age, parental permission is required. This permission is usually provided by the young woman's mother. Understanding predictors of a mother's decision for her minor daughter to receive the HPV vaccine will inform interventions that seek to increase the number of young women who receive the vaccine. The study will focus on mothers and their adolescent daughters between 13-17 years of age. We hypothesize that the Expanded Theory of Planned Behavior will explain a mother's decision to choose the HPV vaccine for her daughter. Research Questions include: 1)What TPB variables predict a mother's decision to choose HPV vaccine for her daughter? 2)What variables predict the strength of a daughter's influence on the mother's decision to choose HPV vaccine for her daughter? 3) What are the relationships between the mothers' and daughters' scores on the variables related to the decision to choose HPV vaccine? 4) How do the mothers and daughters who chose to receive the HPV vaccine differ descriptively from those mothers and daughters who do not choose to receive the HPV vaccine?

Giving more than one drug (combination chemotherapy) may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects and best dose of topotecan when given together with carboplatin and to see how well they work in treating patients with relapsed or metastatic cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer is still the most common gynecologic cancer. There was no obvious increase of the survival over years. The risk of recurrence after radical surgery has increased with positive lymph nodes, positive surgical margins, positive lymphatic vascular space and deep invasion of the cervical stroma. In recent years, the role of chemotherapy for cervical cancer has been gradually recognized. But as a adjuvant therapy post-surgery, if chemotherapy can improve the overall survival rate of patients with adverse pathological prognostic factors is inconclusive. In this study, in order to investigate the effect and adverse reaction of chemotherapy as the adjuvant therapy post-surgery on patients with adverse pathological prognostic factors, nine hundred and ninety patients will be randomly divided into three groups, comparing radiotherapy alone, concurrent chemoradiation and sequence chemotherapy and radiotherapy (2 cycles chemotherapy of Paclitaxel and Cisplatin before and after the irradiation). The investigators aim to find out the best therapeutic regimen with lowest adverse reaction for cervical cancer with adverse pathological prognostic factors. To guide clinical treatment options.
Background: - Cervical cancer is caused by persistent infection of the lining of the cervix with some kinds of human papillomaviruses (HPV). These HPV infections are distantly related to the viruses that cause warts on the skin. Like common wart viruses, most women who have cervical infections with HPV resolve the infections within 2 years without any need for treatment. Cervical infections that do not go away may cause disease that can turn into cancer after many years. - Only one study has been done in Nigeria to learn how many women have HPV infection. The results of the study differed from most other studies in the world because older women were much more likely to be infected. This study with learn whether the results found in the previous study are true in Irun also, the site of the current study. Objectives: - To examine the age distribution of HPV infection and relationship to cancer of the cervix among Nigerian women. - To understand how different screening methods, including HPV testing, could best reduce the risk of cervical cancer in Nigerian women. Eligibility: - Women residing in Irun, Nigeria, who are 15 years of age or older. Design: - Participants complete a brief questionnaire related to demographics, household and living conditions and a longer survey with questions related to reproductive history, family history, illnesses, stressful life events and sexual history (U. of Michigan collaboration). - Participants have a cervical examination, HPV test, Pap test and blood test. - Women whose tests show they are infected with HPV or have cervical disease will do the following: - see a doctor and have cervical biopsies of all white abnormal areas (removal of a small tissue sample from the cervix) - have photographs of the cervix taken - have a cervical scraping for a new kind of HPV test. - Some women with normal test results are also asked to see a doctor to check the validity of the testing - Women with cervical disease receive treatment by a specialist and remain in the program until treatment is successfully completed or a final diagnosis is reached. - Participants may be contacted for followup up to 5 years after the final diagnosis is made.
This randomized phase III trial studies the side effects of paclitaxel when given together with cisplatin or topotecan with or without bevacizumab and to compare how well they work in treating patients with stage IVB, cervical cancer that has come back or is persistent. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel, cisplatin, and topotecan, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. It is not yet known whether paclitaxel is more effective when given together with cisplatin or topotecan with or without bevacizumab in treating patients with cervical cancer.
The goal of this study is to estimate how often pelvic fractures occur in women treated with radiation therapy for either newly diagnosed or recurrent cervical, endometrial, or vaginal cancer. The study will also estimate the changes in bone mineral density and the changes in the blood that relate to "bone turnover". High bone turnover can weaken bones and make you more likely to break a bone.
