NCT ID: NCT03327636 Suspended - Clinical trials for Papillary Thyroid Microcarcinoma

A Trial Comparing USG-HIFU vs AS in Management of Low-risk PTMC

Start date: October 1, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) is a common tumor in Hong Kong. Early immediate surgery has traditionally been recommended. However, given its excellent prognosis, some have recommended Active Surveillance (AS) as an alternative. AS involves monitoring the patients who have PTMC until the tumor progresses. On the other hand, a new technology of ablation has been developing to be an alternative treatment for thyroid nodules comparing with traditional surgery, named High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). In our previous study, HIFU is proved in shrinking the size of target site by 6 months gradually and effectively. The investigator hypothesize that HIFU is an effective treatment for PTMC. Compared to AS, HIFU may be a better option as it not only halts disease progression but also has a longer progression-free survival, longer time to tumor progression and is less likely to harbor active disease.

NCT ID: NCT03309631 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Indeterminate Thyroid Cytology

Clinical Validation of ThyroidPrint: A Gene Expression Signature for Diagnosis of Indeterminate Thyroid Nodules

Start date: March 1, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

A clinical trial is proposed, to clinically validate, in a US population, the diagnostic performance of a new genetic test (ThyroidPrint). It will determine the nature of thyroid nodules that have been informed as indeterminate by cytology through a fine needle aspiration (FNA). The Genetic Classifier for Indeterminate Thyroid Nodules is a test that determines the expression of a panel of 10 biomarkers (CXCR3, CCR3, CXCl10, CK19, TIMP1, CLDN1, CAR, XB130, HO-1 and CCR7). Gene expression data is analyzed through an algorithm that generates a composite score that predicts the risk of malignancy. It´s intended use is for patients with thyroid cytology as indeterminate (Bethesda III and IV, according to The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology). This test uses a fine needle aspiration (FNA) sample.

NCT ID: NCT03307694 Completed - Cancer, Thyroid Clinical Trials

Thyroid Ultrasound Elasticity (TrUE) Imaging

Start date: October 23, 2017
Phase:
Study type: Observational

In this study the researchers will scan the thyroid nodules of patients scheduled for surgical removal of these nodules. During their preadmission testing, but prior to their surgery, the researchers will perform standard ultrasound and shear wave elasticity imaging (SWEI) scans of the thyroid nodules in these patients. Both images can be generated by the same ultrasound scanner and within the same imaging session without having to switch out any equipment. The results of the SWEI scans will be compared to the definitive diagnosis from pathology obtained after pathologists have examined the removed nodules post-operatively.

NCT ID: NCT03300765 Recruiting - Thyroid Cancer Clinical Trials

This study is being done to understand the decision-making process regarding management choice in low-risk papillary thyroid cancer.

NCT ID: NCT03298867 Completed - Thyroid Eye Disease Clinical Trials

Treatment of Graves' Orbitopathy (Thyroid Eye Disease) to Reduce Proptosis With Teprotumumab Infusions in a Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Clinical Study

OPTIC
Start date: October 4, 2017
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The overall objective is to investigate the efficacy, tolerability, and safety of teprotumumab (a fully human monoclonal antibody [mAb] inhibitor of the insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor [IGF-1R]) administered once every 3 weeks (q3W) for 21 weeks with a final assessment at Week 24, in comparison to placebo, in the treatment of participants with moderate-to-severe active thyroid eye disease (TED).

NCT ID: NCT03294005 Completed - Thyroid Cancer Clinical Trials

Clinical Prediction Thyroid Cancer With Thyroid Ultrasonography

Start date: July 1, 2017
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Iodine ingestion insufficiency was widespread existence in the 50's in Taiwan, induced the hypothyroidism with the popular name "the big neck". After many experts study and evaluation, goiter was gradually disappeared after salt adding iodine in the 60's. But the nodule of the thyroid gland was widespread on the Taiwan island. This situation was a particular victim in living in the mountainous area inhabitant. The middle area populaces suffer from the thyroid gland disease really popular than other areas. Recently literature reported that the cancer rate of thyroid gland rises gradually. In according to the statistics, thyroid cancer prevalence probably has 10% in the nodular goiter. The major early preliminary diagnosis of the thyroid cancer is thyroid fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), but this technique must to have skilled clinical puncture's doctor and to have special training cytological pathology doctor. Therefore, if we can have simple fast screening tool and can make up this insufficiency, then we can achieved the fast diagnosis, rapid processing, the promotion diagnosis and treatment quality and promotes the survival percentage. The thyroid ultrasonography (Thyroid US) is one universal, fast, cheap, and the simple diagnosis nodular goiter tool. If we can friendly use this tool, we can early diagnosis & management this disease. This research collect subjects from Jan 2002 to Dec 2016 under procedure of thyroid US, FNAC and thyroidectomy. Preliminary design index of thyroid gland tumor score (TTS) was to survey and analysis.

NCT ID: NCT03284840 Completed - Clinical trials for Vitamin D Deficiency

Adults Nutrition as a Protective or Health-risk Factor

NUTRIHEALTH
Start date: June 1, 2017
Phase:
Study type: Observational

To obtain up-to-date data on nutrient intakes in adults, a national dietary survey - the EU Menu study will be conducted during 12 consecutive months in 2017/2018, providing data on the consumption of foods and enabling the assessment of energy and macronutrient intakes. Participating subjects will be invited to NUTRIHEALTH study for assessment for micronutrient status (focusing into vitamin D, folic acid, vitamin B12, and iron) and medical examination, in which thyroid size will be aslo measured, to investigated thyroid epidemiology in Slovenia.

NCT ID: NCT03271892 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Thyroid Cancer Stage I

Deciding on Active Surveillance or Surgery for Primary Management of Low Risk Papillary Thyroid Cancer

AS-PTC
Start date: May 11, 2016
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This is a prospective observational study. 1. In the first part of the study, consenting eligible adult patients with low risk papillary thyroid cancer that is confined to the thyroid, are provided verbal and written information about their disease and the option of active surveillance (close monitoring with intention to treat if disease progresses or if the patient changes her/his mind), as an alternative to thyroid surgery (thyroidectomy - traditional standard of care). Patients are free to make their own disease management choice (ie. active surveillance or thyroidectomy) and the investigators are examining how often patients choose each of these options. The investigators are also examining the reasons for their choice. 2. In the second part of the study, consenting, eligible patients who completed the preceding part of the study and chose either a) active surveillance, or b) thyroid surgery, are tracked with respect to clinical and psychosocial outcomes as well as quality of life. Patients who chose active surveillance are free to change their mind and have surgery at any point, even if the disease does not progress. The primary study outcome is decision regret at one year, in the respective groups of patients who chose active surveillance or thyroidectomy.
