NCT ID: NCT04516408 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Recombinant Zoster Vaccine in Stable SLE Patients

Start date: April 20, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The risk of herpers zoster reactivation is higher in SLE patients than general population. It has shown that mild or even inactive patients could also have varicella zoster virus (VZV) infections, and they account for about two-thirds of the events. And our previous study indicated that recent various VZV infection was associated with increased risk of disease flares. The risk of virus reactivation limited the use of live-attenuated shingles vaccine in SLE patients, especially in whom with high dose of prednisone or immunosuppressants. Whether the introduction of recombinant zoster vaccine could reduce the risk of zoster reactivation in lupus patients is to be explored in this study.

NCT ID: NCT04515719 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Efficacy and Safety of Belimumab in SLE Patients

Start date: March 19, 2021
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory systemic autoimmune disease. Recurrent relapses of disease and development of long-term organ damage are two key unsolved clinical problems. Belimumab is the only FDA-approved biological agent for SLE. Data showed that treatment with belimumab on the background of standard therapy was effective in active SLE patients. However, the efficacy of low-dose belimumab for prevention of disease flares in SLE patients with low disease activity is to be explored.

NCT ID: NCT04486118 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Centrally Acting ACE Inhibition in SLE

Start date: October 1, 2021
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

SLE is a chronic autoimmune disease that often involves multiple systems and organs of the body. An autoimmune disease is one which your immune system attacks the cells and tissues in different parts of the body. SLE is characterized by inflammation that leads to tissue damage in many different organ systems. Lupus can cause fever, joint pains, rashes, and other symptoms. It can also affect organs such as the skin, the muscles, the kidneys, the heart, the lungs, the blood and the brain. The exact cause of SLE is not known. Problems with memory and concentration are common in lupus; these problems are called cognitive problems. Cognitive problems can be caused by things like depression, fatigue, medication and infections. However, previous studies that have been done in animal models of lupus and in lupus patients suggest that inflammation due to lupus can affect the brain directly. This research study is being done to test the effects of centrally-acting ACE inhibitor, named lisinopril, on resting metabolism in the brain and on cognitive function. The investigators will see if Lisinopril will decrease resting metabolism in the brain and improve cognitive function (memory and concentration) compared to a non-centrally acting ACE inhibitor called benazepril.

NCT ID: NCT04453215 Completed - Clinical trials for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Laser Therapy for Patients With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Start date: January 12, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, autoimmune disease that has detrimental effects on connective tissue and other organs. The musculoskeletal system is one of the most affected systems in this group of patients including the temporomandibular joint. The most common symptoms when muscle involvement in SLE are muscle atrophy decreased muscle strength and myopathy. SLE activity and long-term corticosteroid use are thought to be responsible for these symptoms, thus, SLE patients are accepted to be at higher risk for temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD). Low-level laser therapy(LLLT) is frequently used in the treatment of TMD due to its pain relief and anti-inflammatory effect. Thus, in this study, LLLT has been used to evaluate this treatment modality on the chewing function and pain values of SLE patients with myogenic TMD.

NCT ID: NCT04447053 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Sequential Belimumab and T-cell Based Therapy in SLE

Start date: November 8, 2021
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a disease in which the immune system (the bodily system that fights infection) attacks the body's own cells and tissues, causing inflammation and organ damage if not promptly and appropriately managed. Autoantibodies (specific proteins produced by the immune system which participate in attacking self tissues and organs) are the hallmarks of SLE which are produced by a specific type of white blood cells called B cells. Belimumab (Benlysta®) is a monoclonal antibody against the B cells by blocking the action of BLyS, a protein that prolongs the longevity and enhances the functions of B cells and is found to be elevated in patients with SLE, was approved by the FDA to treat patients with SLE. This study aims to study the effects of Belimumab on T cells, another specific type of white blood cells which also play a crucial role in SLE, in patients with SLE. In this trial, 80 adult patients with SLE will be recruited, 40 of them will be assigned to receive intravenous (IV) Belimumab with standard of care therapy (SOC), and 40 to receive SOC only. After 48 weeks of exposure to Belimumab + SOC and SOC alone, the phenotype and functions of T cells will be studied and compared.

NCT ID: NCT04440566 Completed - Clinical trials for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

O-GlcNAcylation Role in the Pathophysiology of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

METABOLUPS
Start date: October 13, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study aims at defining the role of O-GlcNAcylation is in the physiopathology of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). O-GlcNAcylation is a metabolic pathway potentially implicated in SLE with potential for the discovery of new therapeutic strategies.

A Study of LY3471851 in Adults With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

ISLAND-SLE
Start date: August 19, 2020
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The reason for this study is to see if the study drug LY3471851 (NKTR-358) is safe and effective in adults with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Healthy Lifestyle Intervention in Patients With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: The Living Well With Lupus Study

Start date: September 1, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This research program aims to investigate the clinical, physiological, metabolic and molecular effects of lifestyle change in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus with high cardiovascular risk. This 6-month parallel-group randomized controlled trial aims to investigate the feasibility and efficacy of a newly developed lifestyle change intervention - through recommendations for structured and unstructured physical activity and healthy eating - on increasing physical activity level and improving eating habits. Potential effects of the intervention on cardiovascular and cardiometabolic risk factors, health-related quality of life, symptoms of anxiety and depression, sleep quality and immune function will be investigated. Gold-standard techniques and a variety of analyses will be performed to access the potential mechanisms involved in response to this intervention.
