IGFBP-2 Vaccine and Combination Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Stage III-IV Ovarian, Fallopian Tube, or Primary Peritoneal Cancer Undergoing Surgery

This phase II trial studies how well pUMVC3-IGFBP2 plasmid deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) vaccine (IGFBP-2 vaccine) and combination chemotherapy work in treating patients with stage III-IV ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer undergoing surgery. IGFBP-2 is a protein found in the blood and tumor cells of most who have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Too much IGFBP-2 has been associated with more invasive disease. Vaccines made from DNA may help the body build an effective immune response to kill tumor cells that express IGFBP-2. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel and carboplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving IGFBP-2 vaccine and combination chemotherapy may work better in treating patients with stage III-IV ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer undergoing surgery.

Granisetron patch, aprepitant and dexamethasone may help lessen or prevent nausea and vomiting in patients receiving chemotherapy for stage II, stage III, or stage IV ovarian cancer.

This research trial studies chitinase 3-like 1 (cartilage glycoprotein-39) (YKL-40) in serum samples from patients with newly diagnosed stage III-IV ovarian epithelial, primary peritoneal cavity, or fallopian tube cancer receiving chemotherapy. Studying samples of serum in the laboratory from patients receiving chemotherapy may help doctors learn more about the effects of chemotherapy on cells. It may also help doctors understand how well patients respond to treatment.

Antineoplaston Therapy in Treating Patients With Stage III or Stage IV Ovarian Cancer

Current therapies for Stage III or IV Ovarian Cancer provide very limited benefit to the patient. The anti-cancer properties of Antineoplaston therapy suggest that it may prove beneficial in the treatment of Stage III or IV Ovarian Cancer. PURPOSE: This study is being performed to determine the effects (good and bad) that Antineoplaston therapy has on patients with Stage III or IV Ovarian Cancer.
