Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a form of arthritis that causes pain, swelling, stiffness, and loss of function in the joints. Over time, joint deformity, joint destruction, and loss of function can occur. Current treatment aims to improve symptoms, but there is no cure for the disease. Pioglitazone is drug that is effective in treating people with diabetes. This study will determine whether pioglitazone can also be used to effectively treat people with RA.
A clinical Evaluation to determine metal ion release from 4th generation metal-on-metal hip articulating surfaces in cementless total hip arthroplasty.
This single arm, open-label study will assess the safety and efficacy with regar d to reduction of signs and symptoms of treatment with tocilizumab in combinatio n with methotrexate, in patients with moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthr itis. Patients will receive tocilizumab 8mg/kg iv, every 4 weeks and methotrexat e 10-25mg weekly. The anticipated time on study treatment is 3-12 months, and th e target sample size is <500 individuals.
This single arm study will assess the effectiveness of tocilizumab in combination with traditional DMARDs with regard to the clinical improvement in disease activity (achievement of LDAS) after 24 weeks' treatment in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who have had an inadequate response to current traditional DMARD and/or anti-TNF therapy. Patients will receive tocilizumab 8mg/kg iv every 4 weeks, in addition to ongoing DMARDs at the stable pre-entry dose prescribed by the physician, for a total of 6 infusions during the regular treatment period and a further 6 infusions during an optional extension phase. The anticipated time on study treatment is 6 to 12 months, and the target sample size is <500 individuals.
The purpose of this study is to continue to assess the safety of certolizumab pegol in combination with methotrexate (MTX).
Curcuma longa or turmeric is a tropical plant native to south and southeast tropical Asia. Perhaps the most active component in turmeric is curcumin which may make up 2-5% of the total spice in turmeric. The study drug being tested in this study is curcumin. This study is called a cross-over study because all subjects will receive the study drug for a certain amount of time and then switch to placebo (an inactive substance) for a certain time or vice versa. The subject's participation may last up to 8 months. The subject will be randomized (by chance; like flipping a coin) to receive either the study drug, curcumin, or placebo for 4 months. After 4 months, if the subject was taking curcumin they will stop taking it and begin to take placebo and if the subject was taking placebo they will stop taking it and begin taking curcumin for the remaining 4 months. By completion of the study, all 40 subjects will have taken curcumin and placebo for 4 months each. Curcumin/placebo will be provided in capsule form and the subject will take it by mouth. The dose dose will be increased every week for up to a total of 4 grams per day. Subjects will have blood tests, complete questionnaires, and be seen by the study doctor.
The study is a cross sectional, epidemiology study of disease severity for rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis in four geographic regions in Australia (Illawarra, Sutherland, Hunter Urban and Hunter Rural).
This open-label, single arm study will investigate the safety, tolerability and efficacy of tocilizumab monotherapy, or combination therapy with non-biologic disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), in patients with severe active RA. Patients will receive tocilizumab 8mg/kg iv as a 60 minute infusion every 4 weeks for a total of 6 infusions. The anticipated time on study treatment is 3-12 months, and the target sample size is >500 individuals.
This study was a Multicenter, Randomized, Blinded Study Comparing the Effect of CRx-102 Plus DMARD Therapy to that of Placebo Plus DMARD Therapy on Serum C Reactive Protein (CRP) and Cytokines in Subjects with Rheumatoid Arthritis. This Phase II, 6-week blinded study was planned for 60 subjects with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
