Filter by:Background: Dehiscence of colorectal anastomosis is a serious complication associated with increased mortality and impaired functional and oncological outcomes. We hypothesised that anastomosis reinforcement and vacuum trans-anal drainage could eliminate some risk factors of colorectal anastomotic dehiscence,including mechanically stapled anastomosis instability and local infection.
This study will facilitate a better understanding of the overall experience of our rectal cancer survivors after Low Anterior Resection for rectal cancer. Studies have demonstrated that the development of bowel and genitourinary dysfunction after this procedure is very distressing to patients and can have a significant impact on overall quality of life. By providing interventions that can be performed at home, investigator may alleviate these symptoms in hopes of improving the experience of patients undergoing Low Anterior Resection. By acknowledging these potentially debilitating symptoms in a systematic way, the investigator hopes to reinforce the importance of symptom management in the survivorship phase after treatment has been completed and ultimately facilitate an individual's return to routine activities.
The study aims to assess the existence of intraluminal malignant cells and the appropriate fluid volume needed to perform rectal washout during transanal total mesorectal excision (taTME) for rectal cancer.
The investigators evaluate the response of rectal cancer to neoadjuvant therapy and classify the response according to specific periods of time after the end of neoadjuvant treatment.
Understanding the quality of life and anorectal function changes in patients with middle and low rectal cancer after surgery can guide patients to recover after surgery and provide a valuable reference for surgeons in the selection of surgical methods. The purpose of this study is to: (1) Investigate the complication rate, recurrence and metastasis rate and survival of patients with middle and low rectal cancer. (2) QLQ-C30 and QLQ-CR29 questionnaires were used to assess the quality of life of patients with low- and middle-level rectal cancer at different periods after surgery. (3) Wexner constipation score and LARS syndrome score for anorectal function after operation for low rectal cancer. (4) The CIPE ejaculatory function score, IIEF-5 International Erectile Function Score, and FSFI-6 Female Sexual Function Index were used to assess the changes in sexual function of patients with low- and middle-position rectal cancer after surgery.
This study is a single-center, open, prospective, single-treatment trial (pilot study). This study aims to analyze the treatment results after receiving capecitabine adjuvant chemotherapy for 4 months after non-surgical treatment in patients who had completed and could have clinical complete remission with capecitabine preoperative chemoradiotherapy with capecitabine for mid-to-lower rectal cancer and to investigate the feasibility of non-surgical treatment.
Liver metastases are present in 15-25% of patients with colorectal cancer at the time of diagnosis of the primary tumor, which is defined as synchronous liver metastases. Treatment for the potential cure of this disease includes surgical resection of both the primary tumor and liver metastases. The liver first approach was described by Mentha for patients with asymptomatic rectal tumors with with initially unresectable or borderline resectable liver metastases. There is little data in the scientific literature on how many patients scheduled for this strategy complete both surgeries and/or undergo the full chemo/radiation therapy.
In a retrospective study, the investigators will compare patients with locally advanced rectal cancer with high risk factors for failure who were treated with standard therapy or with total neoadjuvant therapy.
this is a cross sectional intervention study to investigate the role of partial hydrolyzed guar gum in high stoma output management among cancer patients with ileostomy. This study hypotheses there is improvement in stoma output in PHGG if compare with control. There are two groups of subjects in this study. Conventional group (CG) will include retrospective historical data (those subjects with post-operative ileostomy) from Jan 2016 to June 2019. Intervention group (PHGG) will be subjects with ileostomy which involves prospective intervention by giving partial hydrolyzed guar gum upon start orally. Data on stoma output (volume & consistency), length of hospital stay, readmission within 30-days discharged and dietary intake will be recorded in data collection form.
The rationale of this clinical trial is to assess the feasibility of selective non-operative management for locally advanced rectal cancer using dose-escalated ultra-fractionated short course radiation therapy interdigitated with chemotherapy. We believe delivering short course radiotherapy over a prolonged interval, at escalated doses and with concurrent chemotherapy may be feasible and allow for improved clinical response.
