Filter by:This randomized controlled trial will be conducted on 40 orthodontic patients at the Department of Orthodontics, University Hospital Centre Zagreb, Croatia. Respondents will be randomly allocated into 4 groups (n=10). The first group will receive photodynamic therapy, the second tricalcium phosphate varnish with 5% NaF (sodium fluoride), the third 1% chlorhexidine varnish, while the fourth group will be the negative control. Before and after the mentioned interventions, the participants will have the amount of plaque measured using the plaque index and the bacteriological composition of the plaque assessed using the mass spectrometry and PCR. The gingival condition will be assessed using the gingival index. Also, the occurrence of white spot lesions will be evaluated on intraoral photographs.
This early-stage study is designed to determine the efficacy of the Lumoral method in periimplantitis. Improved supragingival plaque control can help to also sustain subgingival plaque management in the long term. In addition, the device might have a photobiomodulation effect on periodontal tissues, thus impacting osseointegration.
ABSTRACT: OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical effects of Salvadora persica (miswak) oral rinse and commercial Listerein mouth wash on oral health of socially deprived madrasa girls. METHODS: Girls aged 18-22 years living permanently in a madrasa of Multan city will be recruited. Sample size and trial duration will be determined using the American Dental Association guidelines. Participants will be randomized into two interventional groups; A and B and will be either provided with Salvadora persica oral rinse and commercial Listerein mouth wash respectively. Pre, mid and post-intervention examinations will be executed by a blind and calibrated examiner using Turesky Quigley Hein Plaque and Loe and Silness Gingival indices. Statistical analysis will include descriptive statistics and two sample independent t-tests. The p-value of <0.05 will be considered significant at 95 % confidence level. Moringa oleifera (MO) is an extraordinary nutritious vegetable tree with high medicinal value for its antibacterial properties. Formulation of various natural dental remedies from this plant and their testing for their effectiveness might yield promising antibacterial, antiplaque and anticariogenic agents with minimal side effects. Aim of the study: Part I: The aim of this in-vitro part of the study is to formulate a nontoxic mouthwash from MO leaves extract, having antimicrobial activity, to be used in part II of the study. Furthermore, stability and efficacy of the developed mouth wash will be evaluated. Part II: The aim of this randomized controlled trial is to evaluate the antibacterial, antiplaque and anticariogenic effect of MO mouthwash compared to chlorhexidine mouthwash.
