Comparing Efficacy Preoperative Nebulized: Ketamine , Mgspo4 ,and Lidocaine In Attenuating Endotracheal Sore Throat

One of the most common complications after endotracheal intubation is sore throat Lidocaine jelly or spray, preoperative gargles with licorice or ketamine or I.V steroids used for prophylaxis against POST are expensive ,and having much more side effects,but nebulized lidocaine is easily found with decreasing cost ,easily administered ,acts immediately with short duration ,minimal side effects ,and no term residual side effects. Nebulized ketamine was found to have a protective effect on allergen-induced airway inflammatory injury , high airway reactivity ,and decreasing postoperative sore throat (POST) incidence . Magnesium sulfate is similar to ketamine in blocking the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors.

The Use of Osteopathic Medical Manipulation to Decrease the Incidence and Severity of Post-Operative Sore Throat

Post-operative sore throat (POST) ranks as the 8th most undesirable effect in the post-operative period and is noted by up to 90% of patients receiving an endotracheal tube. [1-3] This study aims to show that a simple 5 minute preoperative and intraoperative osteopathic medical manipulation protocol can decrease the severity and or the incidence of post-operative sore throat thereby decreasing morbidity and increasing patient satisfaction and return to daily life.

Performance of Ellume·Lab Group A Strep Test Versus Culture for the Rapid Detection of Group A Streptococcus in Participants With Acute Pharyngitis

Participants who meet the eligibility criteria and who consent to participation or whose parents/legal guardian consent to their participation, will be enrolled in the study for a period of up to 14 days. Enrolment visit (Day 1) assessments for all participants will include the collection of throat swabs, testing by staff at the site using the ellume·lab Group A Strep Test and testing for Group A Streptococcus by a central laboratory using bacterial culture and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). All participants will be followed up with a phone assessment of adverse events between Days 2-14.

Effects of Two Packing Type in Maxillofacial Surgery

Operations of oral maxillofacial surgery cause the blood escape into stomach and trachea. Therefore, throat packing is applied. Endotracheal tube cuff is not protective from aspiration. While packing is preventing blood leakage, it may cause postoperative pain due to the pressure. Packing placed between oropharynx and hypopharynx before surgery to prevent leakage to stomach and trachea. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of two packing types in throat pain.

The Development and Testing of a Scaling Strategy for a Community-Based Primary Care Antimicrobial Stewardship Program

Antibiotic resistant infections are expected to cause 10 million deaths worldwide by 2050, and exceed cancer deaths. Reducing antibiotic use can reduce resistance levels. Hospitals have now developed Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs that promote better use of antibiotics. However, 80% of antibiotics are prescribed in the community where stewardship programs do not exist. Antibiotics are often prescribed for coughs and colds, where it can be difficult to tell if these are cases of pneumonia or strep throat. Doctors may prescribe antibiotics `just in case' and patients may request antibiotics hoping to feel better faster. To help family doctors and patients, a team of infectious disease specialists, researchers and community family physicians have collaboratively developed an Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) for use in the community. Testing in 3 family medicine clinics is showing reduced antibiotic use. What is needed is a strategy to `scale' up this program province wide to reduce antibiotic use enough to reduce resistance levels, but how to do this is not known. Working with a community clinic network, this project will test two implementation strategies to inform how best to implement a Community-Based ASP.
