Pancreatitis are one of the most common complications of post-ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography), the incidence rate is 5&-10%, how to prevent PEP and hyperamylasemia is an important issue, somatostatin is widely used in the field of pancreas treatment. In order to explore the effects of somatostatin on prevent PEP(post-ERCP Pancreatitis), 908 subjects will be enrolled in two group in the study, one group is given common treatment, the other uses somatostatin in the base of common treatment.

Enzyme Suppletion in Exocrine Pancreatic Dysfunction

Treatment of exocrine insufficiency (EPI) consists of pancreatic enzyme replacement according to the fat intake. Prescribing a sufficient dose of pancreatic enzymes is mandatory for the treatment to be effective. In addition, consultation of a specialized dietician is pivotal to educate patients about the proper use of pancreatic enzymes. However, based on a recent prospective survey in the Netherlands amongst chronic pancreatitis patients, it seems that enzymes are underused and a dietician is seldom consulted. The aim of this study is to assess if there is a difference in efficacy of pancreatic enzymes in a self-dosage regimen after extensive patient-education in comparison to the standard treatment for patients with EPI.

Early Oral Nutrition in Mild Acute Pediatric Pancreatitis

This is a prospective trial for children with the diagnosis of mild acute pancreatitis admitted to the hospital for continued management. Patients will be enrolled in the study within 24 hours of admission/diagnosis and will be allowed an oral diet once enrolled. Demographic, laboratory and imaging data done as standard of care will be collected and additional blood work will be sent as part of the study. Patients will be followed prospectively with regards to tolerance to oral nutrition, pain, length of stay and complications. The hypothesis is that patients that are able to tolerate early oral nutrition will have shorter length of stays and will be similar in terms of pain score ratings, readmission rates, complications and the need for invasive supplemental nutrition. Also patients that are able to tolerate early oral nutrition will have less significant elevation of biochemical markers of pancreatitis severity when compared to patients that do not tolerate early oral nutrition and historical controls.

This proposed project is designed to collect data and specimens from patients/subjects presenting to the University of Michigan with a disease affecting the pancreas (or specific control populations). This protocol is focused on collecting data, blood samples, and tissue on subjects with pancreatic diseases, including pancreatic cancer, pancreatic cysts, pancreatitis, diabetic controls, jaundice/biliary obstruction controls, and otherwise healthy controls. We are collecting up to 50 mls of blood for research purposes only. Plasma, serum and buffy coat are collected and stored according to strict SOPs.
