Comparison Between Effect of Posterior Cervical Weighting and Deep Cervical Flexion Exercise on Forward Head Posture

It has been reported that the head protrudes forward relative to the body from the sagittal plane associated with the anterior shifting of the line of gravity (LOG) relative to the base of support (BOS). On the other hand, the center of gravity (COG) has changed with the forward head posture (FHP) and is related to mechanical and musculoskeletal modifications due to postural control, which affects the whole body balance. Griegel-Morris et al. Reported that, after evaluating eighty-eight healthy participants, 66% had a forward head posture (FHP). In addition, he stated that the inverted head posture in the forward head posture will not only cause neck problems, but also can extend to the shoulder joint and thoracic spine. As a result, it causes a general imbalance in the musculoskeletal system. Jung-Ho Kang and his colleagues examined the effect of daily sitting times of computer users on dynamic and static balance and stated that balance ability decreased in heavy computer users. Another study on forward head posture (IBP) revealed that it limits ankle joint movement, especially in ankle plantarflexion.

The Effects of Manual Therapy on Balance and Cervical Proprioception

Introduction: Neck pain causes disturbances in both proprioception and balance. The aim of the present study is to determine the effect of mobilization applied to the cervical region on static/dynamic balance and cervical proprioception in patients with nonspecific neck pain (NSNP). Materials and Methods: ... patients were randomly allovated into two groups. Both grups received conventional physiotherapy program (hot pack with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation); additionally, the experimental group received mobilization, and the control group received placebo mobilization twice a week for 3 weeks. Before and 3 weeks later, static/dynamic balance, cervical proprioception, cervical mobility and pain were evaluated respectively with Kinesthetic Skill Training System 3000 device, joint position error test, Cervical Joint Range of Motion Device, Visual Analogue Scale.

Instrumental Soft Tissue Mobilization in Patients With Chronic Neck Pain

In this study, it was planned to investigate the effectiveness of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation (IASTM) in patients with chronic neck pain. Forty eight individuals with chronic neck pain between the ages of 18-70 were included in the study. Individuals were randomly divided into two groups as Combined Therapy (CT) (n = 24) and Exercise Therapy (ET) (n = 24) groups. All exercises were applied to the participants for 4 weeks, 3 times a week, by an experienced physiotherapist for 5 years under supervision. ET which included stretching and strengthening exercises involving the neck, shoulder and around the scapula muscles applied according to the tolerance of the individuals and targeted to be most beneficial in daily life activities. CT in addition to the ET applied 3 times a week for 4 weeks, the participants received a total of 8 sessions of IASTM on the days they came to the treatment twice a week, before the ET. As soon as the participants came to the session, IASTM was applied first. Following the IASTM application, ET was applied in the same protocol and under the same therapist supervise with the ET group. Before and after treatment, deep neck flexor muscle endurance (DNFME), pain severity with Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), functional status with Neck Disability Index (NDI), quality of life with Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) treatment and treatment satisfaction was evaluated.

The aim of the study is to compare the effectiveness between the suboccipital inhibition technique, the suboccipital inhibition carried out with the INYBI instrument and the suboccipital inhibition with the INYBI plus the upper cervical manipulation, all in patients with chronic mechanic cervicalgia, and to determine which of these techniques is the most effective in the variables studied. In order to do so, 96 subjects participated in the study, being assigned to the 3 intervention groups. We expected the combined treatment (INYBI instrument + upper cervical manipulation) to be the one to produce the best results.

The etiology of cervical pain is multifactorial and studies based on the bio-psychosocial model also link chronic neck pain to psychological factors. Among them, kinesiophobia has been reported as an important determinant. Over time, the use of multidisciplinary interventions for chronic vertebral pain (instead of segmental treatments) has grown in order to improve disability, pain and proactive behaviors towards the problem manifested. To date, the evidence relating to the effects of multidisciplinary approaches is inconclusive and lacking. In light of these premises, it appears necessary to deepen the conduct of studies aimed at evaluating the efficacy of a multidisciplinary rehabilitation program that integrates cognitive-behavioral therapy based on kinesiophobia with specific exercises, in the treatment of chronic neck pain of working subjects.

There are studies in the literature suggesting that instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization and Kinesiotape applications improve the joint position sense. There is no study examining these applications acutely on joint position sense and pain in the cervical region. As a result of our study, we will compare the effects of single-session instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization and Kinesiotape application on pain and joint position sense.

Effectiveness of Radial Pressure Waves Therapy in the Treatment of Non-Specific Neck Pain (rPWT)

The present study aims to know the effectiveness of radial pressure wave therapy in the treatment of people with nonspecific neck pain. The study hypothesis is that including radial pressure wave therapy in a protocol based on manual therapy and therapeutic exercise is more effective than the protocol alone for the treatment of nonspecific neck pain. Participants will be randomly assigned into 2 groups, one will be applied only the manual therapy and exercise protocol and the other the same protocol, plus shock wave therapy. Data related to the pathology will be collected and compared between the two groups to determine which treatment is more effective.
