Recombinant Zoster Vaccine in Stable SLE Patients

The risk of herpers zoster reactivation is higher in SLE patients than general population. It has shown that mild or even inactive patients could also have varicella zoster virus (VZV) infections, and they account for about two-thirds of the events. And our previous study indicated that recent various VZV infection was associated with increased risk of disease flares. The risk of virus reactivation limited the use of live-attenuated shingles vaccine in SLE patients, especially in whom with high dose of prednisone or immunosuppressants. Whether the introduction of recombinant zoster vaccine could reduce the risk of zoster reactivation in lupus patients is to be explored in this study.

Efficacy and Safety of Belimumab in SLE Patients

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory systemic autoimmune disease. Recurrent relapses of disease and development of long-term organ damage are two key unsolved clinical problems. Belimumab is the only FDA-approved biological agent for SLE. Data showed that treatment with belimumab on the background of standard therapy was effective in active SLE patients. However, the efficacy of low-dose belimumab for prevention of disease flares in SLE patients with low disease activity is to be explored.

Centrally Acting ACE Inhibition in SLE

SLE is a chronic autoimmune disease that often involves multiple systems and organs of the body. An autoimmune disease is one which your immune system attacks the cells and tissues in different parts of the body. SLE is characterized by inflammation that leads to tissue damage in many different organ systems. Lupus can cause fever, joint pains, rashes, and other symptoms. It can also affect organs such as the skin, the muscles, the kidneys, the heart, the lungs, the blood and the brain. The exact cause of SLE is not known. Problems with memory and concentration are common in lupus; these problems are called cognitive problems. Cognitive problems can be caused by things like depression, fatigue, medication and infections. However, previous studies that have been done in animal models of lupus and in lupus patients suggest that inflammation due to lupus can affect the brain directly. This research study is being done to test the effects of centrally-acting ACE inhibitor, named lisinopril, on resting metabolism in the brain and on cognitive function. The investigators will see if Lisinopril will decrease resting metabolism in the brain and improve cognitive function (memory and concentration) compared to a non-centrally acting ACE inhibitor called benazepril.

To address the health disparities in SLE outcomes for minorities, targeted intervention will be used to address the common barriers to care among patients; a comprehensive patient navigator approach will be utilized based on evidence from prior studies is the purpose of this research. The navigator services most commonly provided include facilitation and coordination of care, practical support, including scheduling transportation and referrals to financial assistance programs, appointment scheduling and reminders, education and psycho-social support. The most effective patient navigators address both health system and patient barriers.

Laser Therapy for Patients With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, autoimmune disease that has detrimental effects on connective tissue and other organs. The musculoskeletal system is one of the most affected systems in this group of patients including the temporomandibular joint. The most common symptoms when muscle involvement in SLE are muscle atrophy decreased muscle strength and myopathy. SLE activity and long-term corticosteroid use are thought to be responsible for these symptoms, thus, SLE patients are accepted to be at higher risk for temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD). Low-level laser therapy(LLLT) is frequently used in the treatment of TMD due to its pain relief and anti-inflammatory effect. Thus, in this study, LLLT has been used to evaluate this treatment modality on the chewing function and pain values of SLE patients with myogenic TMD.

A Study of the Safety of Oral Elsubrutinib Capsules and Oral Upadacitinib Tablets Given Alone or in Combination (ABBV-599) for Adult Participants With Moderately to Severely Active Systemic Lupus Erythematosus to Assess Change in Disease State

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an immune-mediated disease associated with inflammation of multiple organ systems. This study will evaluate how well elsubrutinib and upadacitinib given alone or as the ABBV-599 combination (elsubrutinib/upadacitinib) works within the body, in participants who completed study M19-130. This study will assess the change in disease symptoms. ABBV-599 is an investigational drug being developed for the treatment of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). This study is "double-blinded", which means that neither the trial participants nor the study doctors will know who will be given which study drug. Study doctors put the participants into 1 of 4 groups called treatment arms. Each group receives a different treatment. Adult participants with a diagnosis of SLE will be enrolled. Around 260 participants will be enrolled in the study in approximately 100 sites worldwide. Participants will receive the following for up to 56 weeks: Participants will receive oral elsubrutinib capsules and/or oral upadacitinib tablets once daily for up to 56 weeks. Participants who were receiving elsubrutinib and/or upadacitnib in M19-130 will continue to receive the same treatment in this study. Participants who were receiving placebo in M19-130 will be re-randomized to one of the 2 combination treatment arms in this study. Arm 1: Elsubrutinib Dose A and Upadacitinib Dose A Arm 2: Elsubrutinib Dose A and Upadacitinib Dose B There may be higher burden for participants in this trial compared to their standard of care. Participants will attend monthly visits during the course of the study at a hospital or clinic. The effect of the treatment will be checked by medical assessments, blood tests, checking for side effects and completing questionnaires.
