Filter by:The purpose of this study is to compare the overall survival of patients with advanced non small cell lung cancer treated with docetaxel as single therapy versus docetaxel in combination with either gemcitabine or vinorelbine or in combination with capecitabine.
RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel and carboplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Bevacizumab may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Giving radiation therapy together with chemotherapy and monoclonal antibody therapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving radiation therapy together with chemotherapy and bevacizumab works in treating patients with recurrent, unresectable or stage III or stage IV non-small cell lung cancer.

Imatinib mesylate may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Giving gemcitabine together with imatinib mesylate may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving gemcitabine together with imatinib mesylate works in treating patients with recurrent or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer.
The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and effectiveness of the combination of oxaliplatin and irinotecan (CPT-11) in patients with previously untreated, advanced small cell lung cancer.

The general objective of this study is to improve the Quality of Life (QoL) of selected patients with advanced carcinoma of the lung. The specific objective is to evaluate the effect of treatment with epoetin alfa (recombinant human erythropoietin) on anemia related QoL and anemia in non-small cell lung cancer patients with advanced stage disease and underlying anemia of malignancy.

Giving docetaxel and carboplatin together with bevacizumab before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving docetaxel and carboplatin together with bevacizumab works in treating patients with stage I, stage II, or stage III non-small cell lung cancer that can be removed by surgery.
