Implantation of Markers for the Radiotherapy of Lung Cancer Patients

This clinical trial studies imaging markers in planning radiation therapy in patients with lung cancer. Implanting markers in the tumor that can be seen using imaging procedures during radiation therapy may allow x-rays to be sent directly to the tumor and cause less damage to normal tissue.

Randomized Study to Compare CyberKnife to Surgical Resection In Stage I Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

Lung cancer remains the most frequent cause of cancer death in both men and women in the world. Surgical resection using lobectomy with mediastinal lymph node dissection or sampling has been a standard of care for operable early stage NSCLC. Several studies have reported high local control and survival using SBRT in stage I NSCLC patients. SBRT is now an accepted treatment for medically inoperable patients with stage I NSCLC and patients with operable stage I lung cancer are entered on clinical protocols. The purpose of this study is to conduct a phase III randomized study to compare CyberKnife SBRT with surgery, the current standard of care for stage I operable NSCLC.

The goal of the Phase I portion of this study is to find the highest tolerable dose of the combination of dasatinib and erlotinib hydrochloride that can be given to patients with advanced solid tumors. The goal of the Phase II portion of this study is to learn if this combination is effective when given to patients with non-small cell lung cancer. The safety of this combination will be studied in both phases.

Observational Study of Best Supportive Care With or Without Surgery, Chemo or Radiotherapy in Pts With Carcinoma of Lung

The purpose of this study is to establish a listing (database) of patients diagnosed with lung cancer and treated with best supportive care and standard and investigational chemotherapy regimens, surgery, and radiation therapy at the UNM CRTC and other NMCCA sites. The information will be used to determine the results of various treatments for lung cancer subjects and to find where improvements can be made in safety, effectiveness, supportive care, treatment that eases tumors without curing them, treatments that cure tumors, prevention, and follow-up efforts. The database information will be compared to clinical trial data published in peer-reviewed journals and SEER outcome data. Patients will be acquired both before and after they are treated for lung cancer.

A Study of Ridaforolimus in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) Patients With Kirsten Rat Sarcoma Viral Oncogene Homolog (KRAS) Mutations (MK-8669-021 AM1)

This is a randomized discontinuation study of ridaforolimus in patients with advanced NSCLC who have failed at least 1 but no more than 3 prior treatment regimens and who have KRAS mutant lung cancer. Following 8 weeks of open-label ridaforolimus lead-in there will be an assessment of disease status. Patients assessed by the investigator to have stable disease after 8 weeks will be randomized to double-blind treatment with ridaforolimus or placebo. Patients assessed to have partial or complete response will continue on open-label ridaforolimus. Patients assessed to have disease progression will be discontinued from study.

Everolimus, Carboplatin, and Etoposide in Treating Patients With Small Cell Lung Cancer or Other Advanced Solid Tumors

RATIONALE: Everolimus may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth and by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as carboplatin and etoposide, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving more than one drug (combination chemotherapy) together with everolimus may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of everolimus, carboplatin, and etoposide in treating patients with small cell lung cancer or other advanced solid tumors.
