Filter by:This project is a pilot study exploring the effects of dietary choices and quantitative digestion of gluten ingested by individuals with IBD compared to a control population. The aim of the study is to evaluate for the first time in an Italian population of subjects with IBD the presence of a diet based on GFD (gluten free diet).
Background: Severe congenital neutropenia (SCN) is an immune system disease. People with SCN do not have enough of a kind of white blood cell called neutrophils. This means they get sick easily from infections. Some drugs to treat SCN have lots of side effects. Researchers want to see if a the drug empagliflozin can help increase the number of neutrophils in a person with SCN. Objective: To see if a drug called empagliflozin can help people with SCN. Eligibility: Adults aged 18 and older with SCN. Design: Participants will be screened with a physical exam, medical history, and blood tests. They may have a pregnancy test. Participants will have study visits and local lab visits. They will repeat the screening tests. They will have heart and lung function tests. They will have an ultrasound of the liver and spleen. Their skin symptoms will be photographed. They may have consultations with specialists. They may give a stool sample. They may have an optional colonoscopy with tissue sample collection. They may have an optional bone marrow biopsy and aspirate. They may have an optional magnetic resonance imaging scan of their heart. Participants will be admitted to NIH for 5 7 days. They will start taking the study drug as a pill once daily. They will be monitored for side effects. Participants will take the study drug at home for 12 months. They will use a fingerstick blood glucose meter to measure blood sugar at home. Participants may be able to take the study drug through their local doctor after the study ends. Participation will last for 15 months.
The pathogenesis of IBD is still unclear, and the disease characteristics of IBD patients are affected by genetic susceptibility genes. Therefore, this study aims to explore the relationship between genetic susceptibility genes of IBD and the pathogenesis of IBD in Chinese Han population, in order to clarify the pathogenesis of IBD and provide basis for individualized treatment of IBD.

The 2019-coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by SARS-CoV-2, was identified as the source of pneumonia cases in Wuhan city in China. It rapidly spread worldwide and was declared by WHO as a pandemic. COVID-19 vaccines are expected to be the breakthrough in controlling the pandemic. However, studies performed only in healthy adults, and specifically excluded patients who were under immunomodulatory/biologic therapy, thus excluding patients with chronic inflammatory diseases (IBD). In this study we wish to understand vaccine efficacy and immunological response in IBD patients.
Chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) in historical cohorts. The pathways of oncogenesis of these CRCs, which are very different clinically from de novo CRCs, are currently unknown. The aim of our work is to identify specific molecular signatures of CRC occurring in the setting of IBD.

The LumenEye scope and CHiP platform will be piloted in a number of clinical settings including remote colorectal clinics. The rationale is to perform an initial pilot study to determine the clinical utility of the LumenEye device for use in primary and secondary care settings. The main hypothesis is that digital rectoscopy is safe and acceptable to clinicians including general practitioners and can significantly reduce the burden of endoscopy referral to and within secondary care centres.
The investigators propose an observational study including patients with inflammatory bowel disease under biological therapy with anti-TNF, anti-integrin α₄β₇ or anti-interleukin 12-23 (Ustekinumab), followed by an external Gastroenterology consultation at Centro Hospitalar Tondela-Viseu.
