The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nanohydroxyapatite associated with low potency laser therapy in eliminating or reducing dentin hypersensitivity in a randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial. Volunteers 18 to 50 years old with hypersensitive teeth were randomized into 4 groups: GPLACEBO - positioning of the laser tip without light emission + placebo dentifrice; GnHAP - positioning of the laser tip without light emission + nano-hydroxyapatite; GLASER - laser tip positioning with light emission + placebo substance; GLASERnHAP - positioning by laser beam with light emission + nano-hydroxyapatite.

Study to Investigate Efficacy and Safety of PF-04965842 in Subjects Aged 12 Years and Over With Moderate to Severe Atopic Dermatitis With the Option of Rescue Treatment in Flaring Subjects

B7451014 is a Phase 3 study to investigate PF-04965842 in patients aged 12 years and over with a minimum body weight of 40 kg who have moderate to severe atopic dermatitis. Subjects responding well to an initial open-label 12 week treatment of PF-04965842 (200 mg) taken orally once daily (QD) will be identified and randomized in a double-blind manner to receive 200 mg QD PF-04965842, 100 mg QD PF-04965842, or QD placebo. Efficacy and safety of 2 doses of PF-04965842 will be evaluated relative to placebo over 40 weeks. Subjects experiencing significant worsening of their symptoms, i.e., protocol-defined flare, enter 12 weeks rescue treatment and receive 200 mg PF-04965842 together with a marketed topical medicine. Eligible patients will have the option to enter a long-term extension study after completing the initial 12 week treatment, the 12 week rescue treatment, and the 40 week blinded treatment.

This study will be conducted in 2 cohorts. In Cohort A, approximately 40 subjects will participate in a single-center, open-label, non-randomized, parallel-group trial to investigate the molecular mechanisms involved in delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) to various antigens and assess the most appropriate skin challenge antigen to study the effect of systemic treatments on T cells. Following evaluation of the results in Cohort A, approximately 20 healthy volunteers will be enrolled in Cohort B. This cohort will be a single-center, double-blind, randomized, two-arm, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the effect of corticosteroid treatment on the molecular and cellular phenotype of delayed hypersensitivity response to one if the antigens previously studied in Cohort A.

Effect of Fucoxanthin on the Metabolic Syndrome, Insulin Sensitivity and Insulin Secretion

The Metabolic Syndrome (MS) is a cluster of cardiometabolic risk factors, which include abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and high blood pressure. MS is considered a serious problem to health systems due to a current inability on implementing an effective prevention and treatment program. In Mexico 73% of adult population suffers obesity or overweight, this condition triggers the best studied pathophysiological mechanism; insulin resistance, which in turn precedes the diagnosis of diabetes and cardiovascular disease, that are the main cause of general mortality in Mexico, thus the prevention and timely treatment of this condition are now a priority. Actual pharmacological therapy is designed to control its components individually, however, there are great interest in developing new therapeutic lines that improve more than one component simultaneously and thereby increase the cost-benefit and effectiveness of the therapy. Fucoxanthin is a functional element present in seaweed species. Several studies have offered certain perspectives on its action mechanism and safety. The information available is favorable for weight control in overweight subjects, but its activity in glucose levels, lipid metabolism and blood pressure is inconsistent. It represents a natural option with great interest in this research, since it could be a new, safe and effective therapy in the MS. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of fucoxanthin on the components of the MS, insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion.
