NCT ID: NCT05247567 Terminated - Hypersensitivity Clinical Trials

Quaternary Ammonium and Immunization in Hairdressers

AQTIFF
Start date: October 27, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

"Quaternary ammonium ions (QA) are surfactants and microbicide products found in a large number of household products, disinfectants and cosmetics. Professional exposure to QA causes allergic diseases of the skin and lung (asthma). It is also the firs cause of occupational rhinitis since 2000. Several studies have found a link between exposure to some disinfectants and asthma in specific population. Moreover, a study showed that exposure to QA found in hairdressing products could also be a risk factor to allergy to neuro-muscular blocking agents. However, the prevalence of QA sensitization amongst hairdressers is not known, sensitization mechanisms have been poorly characterized. To date, there is no recommendation regarding QA exposure nor classification of QA by toxicity. Finally, the link between hairdressing QA and drug allergy have not been confirmed yet. The investigator hypothesize that it is possible to sensitize to QA by exposure to hairdressing products and then to declare allergic diseases. The investigator plan to study this hypothesis in an observational prospective cohort of hairdressing students by measuring both sensitization markers in blood and QA exposure. "

NCT ID: NCT05241860 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Metastatic Prostate Carcinoma

Testing Interruption of Hormonal Medications in Patients Responding Exceptionally to Therapy for Metastatic Prostate Cancer, (A-DREAM)

A-DREAM
Start date: November 21, 2022
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This phase II trial examines antiandrogen therapy interruptions in patients with hormone-sensitive prostate cancer that has spread to other places in the body (metastatic) responding exceptionally well to androgen receptor-pathway inhibitor therapy. The usual treatment for patients with metastatic prostate cancer is to receive hormonal medications including a medication to decrease testosterone levels in the body and a potent oral hormonal medication to block growth signals from male hormones (like testosterone) in the cancer cells. Patients whose cancer is responding exceptionally well to this therapy may take a break from these medications according to their doctor's guidance. This trial may help doctors determine if stopping treatment can allow for testosterone recovery.

NCT ID: NCT05234099 Completed - Respiratory Muscle Clinical Trials

Sensitivity and Reproducibility of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography for Assessment of Respiratory Muscle Activity

ResPET
Start date: May 5, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The assessment of respiratory muscle function is critical within both clinical and research settings. Tools for the assessment of respiratory muscle function are especially useful in diagnosing, phenotyping, understanding pathophysiology, and assessing treatment responses in patients with respiratory symptoms, including critically hill patients and patients with respiratory and/or neuromuscular diseases. Respiratory muscle function is most commonly assessed using flow (i.e. spirometry) and pressure measurements during spontaneous ventilation, voluntary respiratory efforts, or artificially evoked responses using magnetic or electrical stimulation. Some of these approaches may be limited within patients suffering from neuromuscular diseases. The study hypothesis is the 18F-FDG PET technology, heavily used for clinical oncology purposes (diagnostic, staging, response to treatment, prognosis), could be an interesting alternative to invasive measurement of the respiratory muscle activity. In addition, it may contribute to further validate metrics based on multiparametric ultrasound imaging.

NCT ID: NCT05233722 Recruiting - Insulin Sensitivity Clinical Trials

mTOR as Mediator of Insulin Sensitivity Study

Start date: February 10, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The study investigates the role of mTOR in mediating enhancement of muscle insulin sensitivity following a single bout of exercise. This will be investigated in young healthy male subjects by administering the pharmacological mTOR inhibitor Rapamycin in a crossover blinded experimental setup known to enhance muscle insulin sensitivity following one-legged knee-extensor exercise.

NCT ID: NCT05232890 Completed - Food Allergy Clinical Trials

Hydroponic Cultivation in Systemic Nickel Allergy Syndrome

DATTERINO
Start date: February 26, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Oral intake of nickel (Ni) is capable of causing the onset of systemic disorders in patients with Systemic Allergy to Nickel Syndrome (SNAS), an emerging allergic condition. Given its ubiquitous age, it is not possible to completely eliminate Ni and, therefore, it is necessary to plan a low-content diet. However, due to various factors (such as variability of Ni concentration in the soil, individual foods, variability of dietary habits and daily menus, different intake of Ni contained in the water, different intake of kitchen utensils, simultaneous intake of other substances), a restrictive diet is difficult and socially discriminating with a strongly negative impact on the quality of life of these patients. Hydroponic agriculture in a completely controlled, aseptic, artificial, soilless environment could be an alternative for patients suffering from SNAS with known and lower concentrations of metals than those deriving from conventional agricultural techniques, which are affected by the soil of origin and practices cultivation. The primary outcome of the study is to evaluate the possible effects of taking tomato puree deriving from hydroponic agriculture compared to tomato puree from conventional cultivation in the subjective control of SNAS symptoms, in patients following a low-diet diet. This is an interventional, randomized, double-blind, single-center crossover study involving a cohort of SNAS patients following a low-nickel diet for at least 4-6 weeks.

NCT ID: NCT05228990 Recruiting - Fibromyalgia Clinical Trials

Pilot Study of Warm Acupuncture in Treatment of Cold-sensitive Fibromyalgia Syndrome

Start date: February 14, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Non-pharmaceutical therapies, such as acupuncture, hydrotherapy, and meditative exercises (such as Qigong (including Tai Chi and Ba-Duan-Jin), have been shown to reduce pain and improve physical function. The management recommendations of fibromyalgia issued by the European Union, Canada, Germany and Israel have all affirmed the "first-line" role of Non-pharmaceutical therapy. Because of its good efficacy and safety, acupuncture therapy has been recommended in the management guidelines and has broad application prospects. Warm acupuncture is a therapy combining acupuncture and moxibustion, which is widely used in the treatment of various painful diseases in China, especially for cold-sensitive patients . This study aims to observe the safety and effectiveness of warm acupuncture in the treatment of cold-sensitive fibromyalgia patients, in order to provide a more alternative non-drug therapy for this particular type of patients with fibromyalgia .
