Filter by:This study evaluates the safety of Viaskin Peanut 250 mcg in the treatment of peanut allergy in children from 4 to 11 years of age. Subjects will receive either Viaskin Peanut 250 mcg or a placebo for a period of 6 months, after which all subjects will be receiving the active treatment up to a period of 3 years under active treatment.
Beta-lactam antibiotics include penicillin and cephalosporins and are among the most prescribed antibiotics. This category of drugs is the most involved in immediate allergic manifestations with 2% reactions in treated subjects and a fatal outcome in 1/50000 treatments. Reactions are IgE-mediated and have a considerable but unknown genetic origin, revealed by studies in groups of different ethnical origins in the same geographical region. There are also some families with a high frequency of allergic reactions without identified Mendelian inheritance. The purpose of this study is to identify predictive risk factors associated to immediate allergic reactions against beta-lactam antibiotics with a pangenomic approach. A secondary purpose is to identify rare predictive factors with homozygosity mapping and exome sequencing in various families with high risk of allergy to beta-lactam antibiotics.
Irritable Bowel syndrome (IBS) is a very frequent condition in children. Its management is difficult, often resulting in a persistence of chronical abdominal pain. In adults, many patients affected by IBS improve under a gluten-free diet, even in the absence of Celiac Disease (CD) or wheat allergy. This condition is called Non Coeliac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS). However, it is still not clear how to diagnose and manage NCGS, and the pathophysiological mechanisms also remain elusive. The aim of this study is to determine if NCGS exists in children with IBS and to identify the clinical, serological, and histological characteristics, which could distinguish patients with NCGS from conventional IBS and CD patients. This is a prospective cohort study in a population of children affected by a moderate to severe IBS for more than 6 months. All children had a Gluten Free Diet (GFD) for 6 weeks. Then, children who improved under GFD were randomized in two groups for a double-blind placebo-controled trial. One group had a reintroduction of gluten followed by a wash-out period, then a placebo reintroduction, whereas the other group had the placebo first, then the wash-out and the gluten reintroduction.
The chief aim of this study is to evaluate the difference in tooth sensitivity after having used a gel containing nano - hydroxyapatite and potassium nitrate This randomized double-blind clinical study is designed to compare the efficacy in reducing dentin hypersensitivity of a toothpaste gel containing Nano-hydroxyapatite and potassium nitrate (Cavex Bite & White ExSense, Cavex Holland BV) with a fluoride-based gel toothpaste ( Colgate, Protection Caries, Palmolive SPA ). Specific objectives : To evaluate through standardized tests the dental sensitivity before and after the application of toothpastes; To compare the variations of dental sensitivity test and control groups. Safety: determination of adverse reactions, such as increased tooth pain and changes in the oral mucosa after application of the materials.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most frequent form of chronic inflammatory rheumatism in adults. The erosive damage influences the functional prognosis in patients with RA. At present, there are no sufficiently sensitive and specific predictive markers of erosive damage.
Patients consulting in the Allergy Unit of the Arnaud de Villeneuve Hospital for whatever suspicion of allergy were asked to participate in the study. Besides a standard battery of respiratory allergens, native raw and cooked potato were tested by means of the prick to prick method, using a metal lancet.
Compare teeth sensitivity using bleaching protocol with different light intensities (Philips Zoom!™ White Speed whitening gel and lamp, Discus Dental, Inc., Culver City, CA, USA.) versus bleaching protocol with the same light intensity (Philips Zoom!™ Advanced Power whitening gel and lamp, Discus Dental, Inc., Culver City, CA, USA.).
Prevalences of food allergies and asthma increased in the population during the last decades. These two pathologies, responsible for a real burden, are often associated and are to be considered as comorbidities; this aspect is more and more studied in the literature and many authors tried to find a link between diets and asthma. The narrow link between these two atopic pathologies and the fact that food allergy can come along with respiratory symptoms also in patients without history of asthma must be better understood, considered into the management of food allergy. The main objective of this study is to study the prevalence of signs and/or symptoms suggestive of bronchial hyperreactivity, during an oral food challenge (OFC) in patients older than 5 years. The secondary objective is to study the risk factors to develop asthma during a food allergy reaction. This historical-prospective single center study , was realized in the Allergy Unit of the University Hospital of Montpellier. All the patients having been hospitalized for a positive OFC between January, 2001 and January, 2016 were included. The diagnosis of asthma was established according to the recommended international clinical and physiological criteria. Prevalence of bronchial hyperreactivity during OFC among those with positive OFC, was calculated. The search for risk factors was made by a logistic regression univariate then multivariate, completed by a decision tree.
The purpose of this study is testing the use E-B-FAHF-2 Chinese herbal therapy in combination with multi-food oral immunotherapy (OIT) and Xolair® (Omalizumab) to help children and adults who are allergic to foods be able to safely tolerate food allergens. Specifically in this protocol, the food allergens are milk, egg, peanut, almond, cashew, hazelnut, walnut, sesame, and/or wheat. Omalizumab is considered an investigational drug for the treatment of food allergies in children and adults. Investigational means it has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in the U.S. The researchers hope to learn whether the addition of Chinese herbal therapy (E-B-FAHF-2) can improve the outcome of sustained unresponsiveness (which is the ability to consume a food allergen and pass an oral food challenge after being off treatment for 3 months) as compared to placebo (i.e. subjects with OIT/Omalizumab + herbal vs. OIT/Omalizumab + placebo), and will help adults and children be able to safely ingest the foods they are allergic to.
This investigation examines the efficacy of a 35 minute computerized psychoeducation protocol in the reduction of elevated anxiety sensitivity cognitive concerns, a risk factor for the development and maintenance of various forms of psychopathology.
