Plasma Free Amino Acids in Patients With Hepatic Encephalopathy

Start date: December 15, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

This is study to investigate the plasma free amino acids profile in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis and hepatic encephalopathy and its relation to the nutritional state of these patients. - To investigate the plasma free amino acids relation to the nutritional state of patients with liver cirrhosis and hepatic encephalopathy. - To determine the effectiveness, cost, cost-benefit and in-hospital prognosis of branched chain amino acid (BCAA) infusion as an adjuvant to conventional mainstay therapy in the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy due to liver cirrhosis. - To determine the effectiveness of branched chain amino acid (BCAA) infusion on improving amino acid imbalance and Fischer ratio (Branched chain amino acids/Aromatic amino acids ratio).

ETOS: Minimal Hepatic Encephalopathy in Childhood and Young Adult: epidemiOlogical Study and Pilot Interventional Study

ETOS
Start date: March 2013
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The aim of the study is: - Epidemiological/observational: investigating the presence of neuropsychological and electrophysiological alterations, suggesting a condition of minimal hepatic encephalopathy(and its behavioral correlates), in childhood and young adulthood affected by pre-hepatic portal hypertension due to portal vein thrombosis, even for implementing specific diagnostic protocols. - Interventional: collecting preliminary data on the effects of a probiotic, in order to implement a controlled clinical study.

Prediction of Mortality in Patients Waiting for Liver Transplantation Through Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Start date: November 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The purpose of this study is to determine whether hepatic encephalopathy, measured through magnetic resonance imaging, electroencephalogram and neuropsychological evaluation adds prognostic information to patients who are waiting for liver transplantation. If this model improves mortality prediction this might be used in the future for organ allocation.
