There is evidence that the sensor function of the utricle in patients with bilateral labyrinthine dysfunction (bilateral vestibulopathy) may improve balance under the influence of high frequency basal stimulation of the cochlea. The aim of the study is to measure the possible co-stimulation of the utricle (which is determined by the SVV) by tonotopic (frequency-specific) cochlear stimulation and thus to objectify whether the stimulation of the auditory nerve in CI patients also leads to an unavoidable co-stimulation of the vestibular system.

Investigating Hearing With Ponto 3 SuperPower, a Bone Anchored Hearing Aid - Investigating Hear

The study is part of the Post Market Clinical Follow (PMCF) activity. The investigational device is the CE-marked Ponto 3 SuperPower (available on the market since December 2016) already fitted to the subjects, and data is collected retrospectively from clinical routine visits. The study is a retrospective study. Therefore there will be no study visits for treatment or follow-up in the study. Subject inclusion for this clinical investigation will be performed among subjects who has been fitted with the Ponto 3 SuperPower. To have a wide representative selection of subjects, enrollment will be spread over the 4 years since the device was available on the market since December 2016. The endpoints in the study will investigate the improvement of hearing with the Ponto 3 SuperPower. The data will be collected from the subjects in the time period from the clinical routine visit where the Ponto 3 SuperPower where fitted or just prior, and from the clinical routine visit following the fitting, where audiologic fitting follow-up procedures are performed (approximately 3 months).

Cochlear Implantation in Children With Asymmetric Hearing Loss or Single-Sided Deafness Clinical Trial

This is a two-phase study that compares performance growth pre-implant with current hearing aid (HA) technology versus post-implant with a cochlear implant (CI) in children with either asymmetric hearing loss (AHL) or single-sided deafness (SSD). Post-implant performance with a CI alone is expected to outperform pre-implant performance with a HA. The study also evaluates the effectiveness of bimodal hearing defined as a CI in the poor ear and a HA in the better ear for AHL or a CI in the poor ear and normal hearing in the better ear for SSD compared to pre-implant performance. The study examines factors contributing to CI outcomes.

Cochlear Implantation for Young Single-sided Deaf Children

Children with profound sensorineural unilateral hearing loss (UHL) lag behind in spoken language, cognition, spatial hearing, and academic performance compared to normal hearing (NH) children. Until recently children with UHL were not remediated, thereby assuming that the normal ear would provide sufficient sensory cues for speech understanding. However, this is not true. Because of the difference between the two ears they have difficulty localizing sounds and understanding speech in noise. Such auditory deprivation leads to more global changes in neurocognitive function. It is expected that a cochlear implant in the deaf ear will provide the necessary cues for hearing with two ears. The main objective of this research project is to fundamentally investigate language, cognitive, and spatial/binaural hearing longitudinally in children with unilateral deafness who receive a cochlear implant and age-matched peers.

The BCI 602 BONEBRIDGE Post-Market Clinical Follow-up Study

The Bonebridge system using the BCI 601 is marketed since 2012. Previous prospective, multi-center, non-randomized studies on the BCI 601 Bonebridge performed in adult and paediatric populations have shown a significant improvement in terms of aided sound field (SF) thresholds, word recognition scores (WRS), speech reception thresholds (SRT) and subjective device satisfaction. Safety was established by stable residual hearing and low complication rates. The Bonebridge, implanted in over 600 clinics worldwide, is the world's first active transcutaneous bone conduction implant (BCI) system. This study now focuses on the further developed BCI 602 (marketed since 2019) that has the same indication criteria and performance characteristics. The aim of this post-market clinical follow-up (PMCF) study is to provide clinical data for the long-term performance and safety when implanted with the Bonebridge BCI 602 .

Functional Near Infra-Red Spectroscopic Study of Central Auditory System Cortical Functional Reorganization

This study aims to compare the auditory cortical activity in response to monaural and binaural stimuli, measured by functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) between Single-sided Deaf (SSD) Children, and Normal-Hearing (NH) children from 5 to 16 years. Binaural audiological performance, speech skills and quality of life (QoL) will be compared between the 2 groups and links to with the cortical activity will be assessed.
