NCT ID: NCT02549781 Terminated - Clinical trials for Pathological Gambler

Environmental Influence on Gambling Behavior

Start date: January 31, 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

In France, the prevalence of problem gambling and risk has been estimated at 1.3%. This disorder, currently considered a behavioral addiction is characterized by a loss of control and an excessive focus on the game. The literature on intervening psychological mechanisms in the development of the game led to think that the size of loss of control, central among players, could be understood as a reduction in control capacity but also as automatic activation behavior game. The task of Go-Nogo, commonly used in cognitive psychology, assesses the automatic and controlled components of behavior. Furthermore, different models of the concept of addiction underline the importance of the environment associated with addiction. However, no study takes into account the interaction between the game environment and the involvement of these mechanisms.

NCT ID: NCT01560351 Terminated - Clinical trials for Pathological Gambling

Repeated Low-frequency Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Reduces Cue-induced Craving: a Randomized, Prospective, Double-blind, Sham-controlled, Cross-over Study

STIMJEU
Start date: March 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of repeated low-frequency Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) of the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, combined with gambling cues, on gambling craving. Participants are pathological gamblers. A single real stimulation and a single shame stimulation are administered in a random order for each participant (cross-over study).

NCT ID: NCT00249431 Terminated - Alcoholism Clinical Trials

Effectiveness of Sertraline in Treating Pathological Gamblers With a Diagnosis of Alcohol Dependence - 1

Start date: December 2001
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Pathological gamblers often are also dependent on alcohol and clinically depressed. Sertraline (Zoloft) is currently used to treat depression, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The purpose of this trial is to determine the effectiveness of sertraline used in combination with relapse prevention therapy in decreasing gambling behavior and alcohol consumption in individuals with a diagnosis of pathological gambling and alcohol abuse or dependence.

NCT ID: NCT00245583 Terminated - Clinical trials for Pathological Gambling

Topiramate in the Treatment of Pathological Gambling

Start date: October 2005
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This study will assess the efficacy of topiramate in the treatment of pathological gambling. Pathological gambling (PG) is a debilitating disorder, generally leading to severe personal, familial, financial, social, and occupational impairments. In PG, the patient experiences a progressive inability to resist impulses to gamble, and gambling significantly disrupt the patient's functioning in the personal, familial, and/or vocational spheres. Topiramate has shown preliminary evidence of efficacy in some impulse control disorders.

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) Studies in Pathological Gambling (PG) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Start date: November 2004
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

This study will explore the brain processes associated with inhibition and reward processing in pathological gamblers and people with obsessive compulsive disorder compared to healthy controls.
