NCT ID: NCT06393309 Completed - Clinical trials for Treatment of Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy

Levetiracetam Versus Valproate in Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy

LEVAGE
Start date: September 3, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This study aimed to compare the long-term efficacy and safety of levetiracetam and valproate in treatment of idiopathic generalized epilepsy.

NCT ID: NCT05297695 Completed - Clinical trials for Helicobacter Pylori Infection

Helicobacter Pylori Eradication Therapy for Epileptic Children

Start date: April 20, 2022
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is associated with several health problems. The role of H. pylori infection in epilepsy has been investigated in a few studies. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no previous studies on the effect of treating H. pylori infection on seizure frequency among children with drug-resistant idiopathic generalized epilepsy. This study aims to evaluate the effect of treating H. pylori infection on seizure frequency among children with drug-resistant idiopathic generalized epilepsy.

NCT ID: NCT05241678 Completed - Clinical trials for Epilepsy, Generalized

Evaluation of the 24/7 EEG™ SubQ System in Subjects With Uncontrolled Genetic Generalised Epilepsy Syndrome

Start date: February 15, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

This study is a 12 week prospective, comparative investigation in subjects diagnosed with uncontrolled genetic generalised epilepsy (GGE) also known as idiopathic generalised epilepsy (IGE). The purpose of the study is to evaluate whether the 24/7 EEG™ SubQ system, a subcutaneous implantable device, will demonstrate seizure sensitivity approximating that of inpatient video-EEG monitoring with the standard 10-20 electrode system.

NCT ID: NCT04965571 Completed - Wilson Disease Clinical Trials

Clinical Features and Outcome of Wilson's Disease With Generalized Epilepsy in Chinese Patients

Start date: September 1, 2010
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Generalized epilepsy is rarely reported in patients with Wilson disease (WD) and lacks experience in clinical practice. We aim to provide better experience for the diagnosis and treatment for WD patients with epilepsy in the future.

NCT ID: NCT04439656 Completed - Seizures Clinical Trials

Detecting Absence Seizures Using Eye Tracking

Start date: July 15, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The goal of this study is to develop a comfortable system that uses a wearable eye-tracker similar to eyeglasses to assist people with epilepsy in counting and measuring the severity of seizures. Participants will wear an eye-tracker during a routine EEG.

NCT ID: NCT04252846 Completed - Clinical trials for Partial Onset Seizures

A Study to Investigate Dosage, Effectiveness, and Safety of Perampanel When Used as First Add-on Therapy in Participants >=12 Years With Partial Onset Seizures With or Without Secondary Generalization or With Primary Generalized Tonic-Clonic Seizures Associated With Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy

Start date: July 20, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The primary purpose of this study is to assess the retention rate of perampanel as a reliable proxy for overall effectiveness and tolerability in participants aged at least 12 years who are prescribed perampanel (for partial onset seizures [POS] with or without secondary generalization [SG] or for primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures [PGTCS] associated with idiopathic generalized epilepsy [IGE] as first adjunctive to antiepileptic drug (AED) monotherapy as part of their routine clinical care.

NCT ID: NCT04248920 Completed - Clinical trials for Epilepsy, Generalized

Clinic to Community© Program for Adults With Epilepsy Admitted to Emergency Departments

C2CEDRCT
Start date: September 12, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Analysis of emergency department (ED) visits with a billing code for 'epilepsy' or 'seizure' found up to 37% are eligible for deferral. This study is a randomized controlled trial (RCT) of the Clinic To Community© program (C2C) as an intervention for adults with epilepsy visiting emergency departments at a mid size hospital in Ontario, Canada. Participants in the intervention arm receive patient education to improve knowledge of epilepsy and access to community-based services. Participants in the control group are wait-listed and receive patient education 12 months later. The study objective is to successfully implement, recruit and retain participants for this intervention and evaluate whether C2C will reduce the frequency of ED visits, reduce felt stigma and improve quality of life, epilepsy knowledge, and self-management skills.

NCT ID: NCT03590197 Completed - Clinical trials for Generalized Epilepsy

Effect of Melatonin on Seizure Outcome, Neuronal Damage and Quality of Life in Patients With Generalized Epilepsy

Start date: August 6, 2018
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Epilepsy is one of the most common and frequently encountered neurological conditions that impose a huge burden on the healthcare systems. Despite the abundance of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) available, 30% of people continue to have seizures even after long-term therapy of 6-8 years. This group of people requires a more aggressive treatment since monotherapy, the first choice scheme, is not sufficient to control seizure and its complications, multiple drug therapy or polytherapy often results in the culmination of unwanted effects. The need for an add-on AEDs with a good safety profile is of utmost importance. The beneficial effects of melatonin on sleep, its wide safety window, and its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier have the potential to improve the quality of life in seizure patients. Various animal studies have suggested that melatonin receptors are the potential targets for anticonvulsant drug development. In animal studies, melatonin was found to suppress generalized seizure and seizure susceptibility and it also has neuroprotection and synapse modulating properties. Some clinical trials mostly on paediatric population also found that melatonin can improve the clinical outcome in epilepsy. Therefore, we have planned to conduct a randomized, add-on placebo-controlled clinical trial on the effect of melatonin on seizure outcome, neuronal damage and quality of life in adult patients with generalized seizure.
