Filter by:This study evaluated the effect of joint position sense on compliance with the prosthesis, balance and functional performance in individuals with lower extremity amputation due to diabetic polyneuropathy. Study group consisted of 16 subjects with unilateral transtibial amputation due to diabetic polyneuropathy and control group consisted of 16 subjects with unilateral transtibial amputation due to traumatic reasons.
This study determines the effects of moderate physical activity on early symptoms of peripheral diabetic neuropathy in type-II diabetes. Most of the literature shows the impact of physical activity to manage/controlling diabetes. Some studies were conducted on animals to study the impact of physical activity on diabetic neuropathy and neurogenesis. There is no study on the impact of physical activity to manage early symptoms of peripheral diabetic neuropathy in patients with type-II diabetes in humans. This study finds the impact of moderate physical activity to manage early symptoms of peripheral diabetic neuropathy in patients with type-II diabetes in humans.

This prospective study was was divided into 2 parts and carried out at 2 sites in Germany. Part 1 assessed Repeatability in healthy, non-diabetic population (Group "control"). Part 2 collected data to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic value of using Heidelberg Engineering Retina Tomograph (HRT) 3 with the Rostock Cornea Module EyeGuidance functional module (HRT RCM-E) in subjects with early to moderate DPN (Groups"none" and "mild", respectively).
Most of the literature found on whole body vibrations(WBV) instead of focal muscle vibrations (FMV) in diabetic peripheral neuropathy patients. The studies found on the effects of focal vibrations could not be generalised on the huge population of diabetes mellitus (DM) induced neuropathic pain because of small sample size and due to subordinate studies i.e, pilot studies done on the focal vibrations in which 3 different modes of vibrations is used without comparing with the control group. These studies are not much valuable in literature as well as for clinical purposes due to lack of control group. As mentioned in previous studies that better results achieved with the WBV on pain in diabetic peripheral neuropathyso that the hypothesis can be made that when FMV directly applies on the focal region that may influence the pain and/or peripheral neuropathy status.
The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of Acetyllevocarnitine Hydrochloride Tablets compared with placebo after 24 weeks, in chinese patients with paresthesia caused by Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN).
Neuropathy is a frequently observed complication occurring in 60-70% of diabetic patients throughout their lives. In addition, neuropathy is a severe disease that progresses insidiously; its diagnosis can be delayed due to the absence of clinical findings, affects the quality of life, and increases mortality and morbidity. Up to 50% of patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) may be asymptomatic. Typically, DPN progresses in the form of chronic, symmetrical, and progressive sensorimotor polyneuropathy. The five-year mortality rate of individuals with diabetes with autonomic neuropathy is three times higher than those without. The diagnosis of clinical neuropathy is usually made by the symptoms, the vibration sensation with the diapason, and the tactile sensation tests. Although diapason and monofilament tests are easy, they are qualitative tests that the patient must be careful and coordinate with. Biothesiometry or Semmes-Weinstein monofilament tests cannot examine autonomous involvement. Cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy tests based on heart rate variability (HRV), on the other hand, can be affected by factors such as age, body position, cigarette-coffee consumption, blood pressure, exercise, heart rate, and respiratory rate. An easy and fast diagnostic method may be more helpful in diagnosing peripheral and autonomic neuropathy. Distal small-fiber polyneuropathy can be detected by measuring sweat function using Sudoscan, a rapid, non-invasive, and quantitative method. This measurement method is based on the electrochemical reaction between sweat chlorides and stainless steel electrodes that come into contact with the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. Results are provided as a Diabetic Autonomic Neuropathy (DAN) score based on conductances (micro siemens, μS) and conductivity values for the hands and feet (right and left sides). SUDOSCAN can detect distal small-fiber polyneuropathy with >75% sensitivity. SUDOSCAN can be considered a robust method for detecting sudomotor dysfunction and is used for clinical and research purposes. In the American Diabetes Association (ADA) consensus statement, sudomotor functions are mentioned in the early diagnosis of autonomic neuropathy in people with diabetes. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of this method in clinical applications by comparing sudomotor test results with other conventional measurement methods in the evaluation of diabetic peripheral and cardiac neuropathy.
Background: Diabetes mellitus is commonly complicated by diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Due to common side effects and poor tolerance to medication, poor adherence to medication is common in diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Botulinum toxin A intradermal injection has proved efficacy in cases of diabetic peripheral neuropathy however there is a need to compare its effect with other lines of treatment. The aim of the study was to compare botulinum toxin type a verses conventional oral treatment as a second line treatment of painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy. This study was conducted as a comparative study on 30 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus proved by nerve conduction study on carbamazepine. Patients were divided randomly into 3 groups. First group was add on duloxetine, second was add on gabapentin and the third group was injected intradermal with botulinum toxin A.
This project is a Randomized clinical trial that will be conducted to check the effects of Wii Fit Based Exercises and Proprioceptive training on Balance and Fall Risk in patients with Diabetic Neuropathy, duration of study will be of 6months, convenient sampling will be used, subject following eligibility criteria from Riphah Rehabilitation Centre, Patients will be randomly allocated into two groups; Group A will be treated with Wii Fit based exercises (40 mins session, 3 days/week, Penguin slide, soccer heading, tilt table, tightrope walking) & Group B will be treated with Proprioceptive training (40 min session, 3 days/week, toe walking, heel walking, cross-body leg swings right and left sides, partial squat, ). In both groups pre and post-test measurements of Balance and Fall of risk will be assessed through Berg Balance scale, STAR excursion, Modified Fall Efficacy scale, and Timed Up and Go (TUG). Evaluation will be done before the session start and at the end of 6th Week.
