The aim of the present investigation was to evaluate the effect of stevioside and rebaudioside on several variables related to caries development. Two approaches were performed: an in vitro evaluation of the growth of a culture of mutans streptococci and in vivo randomized study on the effect of a single rinse containing stevioside and rebaudioside on plaque-pH.

The aim of the prospective project is to investigate effect of daily probiotic supplements on dental caries development in preschool children living in a low socioeconomic immigrant area in souithern Sweden. The study design is a randomised controlled trial with two parallell arms. The intervention is one probiotic tablet or placebo once daily. The null hypothesis is that the caries experience and increment will not differ betwwen the two groups.
The study aims to develop a questionnaire that can be used to help uncover a child's risk of developing dental caries (also known as tooth decay or a cavity). The aim is to develop a practical and easily-scored risk tool that a primary medical care provider can use to help find young children with the highest risk for developing cavities.
Hypothesis The use of Isolite® system does not produce upper airway obstruction in the pediatric population during dental treatment with conscious sedation. Purpose: Report the changes in airway patency and pediatric patient's behavior when Isolite® system is used for dental treatment with conscious sedation. Objectives: 1. Determine changes in pulse rate 2. Determine changes in SpO2 3. Recognize breath sound's changes possibly associated with airway blockage 4. Evaluate if the isolite® system is well tolerate by the pediatric population for dental treatment under conscious sedation 5. Relate the use of Isolite® with the frequency of head reposition to open the airway.
The study will compare the effectiveness of Duraphat® fluoride varnish in preventing any further dental decay among 3-4 year old children in nursery schools. It is important to ascertain the additional preventive value that fluoride varnish may provide when applied in conjunction with other preventive measures which form part of a national dental health improvement programme targeting children at risk from dental decay. 1600 children will be recruited into the study for 2 years.
Aim: To assess in vivo if the intake of yogurt containing Bifidobacterium animalis ssp. lactis DN- 1173010 probiotic for a period of 2 weeks affects the salivary levels or biofilms of mutans streptococci and the lactobacilli of patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Methods: A crossover, double-blind, randomized and placebo controlled clinical trial will be performed with 26 volunteers during 4 periods. During periods 2 and 4 (2 weeks each) the volunteers will have a daily ingestion of yogurt containing probiotic or of control yogurt which did not contain probiotic. Periods 1 and 3 were run-in and wash-out periods of 1 and 4 weeks, respectively. Experimental samples of saliva and biofilm will be collected from each participant at the end of each phase. Mutans streptococci, lactobacilli, total aciduric microorganisms, Candida spp. and total cultivable microorganisms will be counted. The values before and after the treatment will be compared with Wilcoxon's test (p<0.05).
Probiotics are microorganisms that when administered in adequate amounts can confer health benefits. In vitro and clinical studies support the idea that lactobacilli have protective effects on oral health. A recent study in which preschoolers consumed milk drinks enriched with Lactobacillus rhamnosus, reported a reduction in caries, as well as additional benefits to children. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of daily consumption of milk beverages enriched with Lactobacillus rhamnosus on the incidence of caries in preschool Chilean children.
