Impact of Dental Pain on the Quality of Life

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the perceived impact of dental caries and dental pain on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among preschool children and their families. A cross-sectional study was conduct with 843 preschool children in Campina Grande, Brazil. Parents/caregivers answered a questionnaire on socio-demographic information, their child's general/oral health and history of dental pain. The Brazilian version of the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale was administered to determine the perceived impact of caries and dental pain on OHRQoL. Children have undergone an oral examination. Logistic regression for complex sample was used to determine associations between the dependent and independent variables (OR: odds ratio; α = 5%).

Checking Occlusion During Stainless Steel Crown Placement

Stainless steel crowns are arguably the most successful posterior restorations in primary teeth and have been so for more than 50 years. Stainless steel crowns offer durability and success rates in excess of 95% making them the restoration of choice for posterior primary teeth in children treated under general anesthesia. Failures of stainless steel crowns placed on primary teeth have been documented using several criteria including marginal adaptation, recurrent caries, abscess formation or root resorption, loss of the crown due to faulty retention and even perforation of the crown . Despite the probability that factors such as root resorption and failure of endodontic treatment could be due to traumatic occlusion, surprisingly little evidence is available in literature on the attempts made to check or evaluate the occlusion of stainless steel crowns placed under general anesthesia The aim of this study was to compare the time taken for placement and the overall success of bilateral multiple stainless crowns placed under general anesthesia using an occlusal index and compare them to crowns placed without such an index, using a randomized control study design

MI Varnish and MI Paste Plus in a Caries Prevention and Remineralization Study

The objective of this clinical study is to evaluate the efficacy of multiple applications of MI Varnish in combination with MI Paste Plus in caries protection and remineralization in comparison to the use of a control (Crest 1,100ppm Fluoride tooth paste, Fluoride rinse recommendation) in orthodontic patients in a randomized, single blind, prospective, controlled clinical trial over 12 months. The effect will be measured by white spot lesion regression and prevention as lesion count. Lesions will be scored using the Enamel Decalcification Index (EDI) area evaluation scheme (primary outcome), International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS), the caries lesion activity criteria (Nyvad criteria; Bente Nyvad, Scandinavian Researcher), and Quantitative Light Fluorescence (QLF, Inspektor Pro, Netherlands)/SOPROLIFE (SOPROLIFE fluorescence camera system, Acteon, France) evaluation in maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth with orthodontic brackets in treatment and control groups.

Background and study aims: The investigators are carrying out a clinical trial of two different sealant materials to compare the retentivity and decay inhibiting properties of the above said materials. it is a split mouth study, wherein the 2 sealant materials will be placed on the exactly opposite placed molars of 198 healthy school children in the age group between 6 - 12 yrs of age. who can participate? school children in the age group between 6 - 12 yrs of age with non decayed contra lateral permanent 1st molars at a school in the southern part of India. what does the study involve? over a period of 24 months, the retentivity and the decay preventing effects of these two sealant materials( RESIN BASED SEALANTS AND ART SEALANTS) will be clinically assessed by us. possible benefits/ risks of participating in the trial the participants will be not be exposed to any kind of risks as it is a non invasive procedure the possible benefits may be preventing decay to the permanent molar in the long run study start date/duration of the study? ETT Rotation During Nasal Fiberoptic Intubation

A nasal endotracheal tube (ETT) is routinely placed in children and a fiberoptic scope (FOS) is commonly used for this purpose. Resistance to the passage of ETT is frequently encountered as it is advanced over the FOS for placement into the trachea, since it gets hung up on structures of the laryngeal inlet. The aim of the investigators study performed on forty children divided in two groups was to study in the pediatric population, whether a 90° counterclockwise rotation (CCR) of the ETT prior to advancing through the larynx, by nasal approach, prevents it from getting hung up at the laryngeal inlet.

Evaluation of Oral Hygiene Products in an In Situ Caries Model

The study will evaluate and compare the potential anti-caries efficacy of a test regimen: placebo (fluoride free) toothpaste (twice daily use) plus fluoride mouthwash (once daily use), in comparison with brushing with a placebo toothpaste alone (twice daily use), to remineralize previously demineralized enamel specimens, as measured by Surface MicroHardness Recovery (%SMHR). This will be a single center, randomized, laboratory analyst blinded, placebo, four treatment, cross-over study in healthy participants. Participants will be assessed at baseline and at the beginning and end of each treatment visit to monitor clinical efficacy and safety.

A major focus of caries research has been on identifying and characterizing acid-generating bacteria and the mechanisms of acid resistance. The purpose of this study is to investigate over time the relationship between alkali production and caries.
