Filter by:The aim of the study is to compare the short-term marginal integrity of two preparation techniques for Class I composite restoration using two visual assessment techniques, the FDI World Dental Federation and US Public Health Service assessment criteria. In addition, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) will be used to assess the marginal integrity of the restoration.
The literature recognizes that fluoride is the most widely used and studied means for dental remineralization. The use of fluoride mouthwashes is shown as an effective way to increase the fluoride intraoral availability. However, the current challenge is the substantivity, so new compounds have been introduced into these formulations. This study aims to evaluate the in vivo effect of fluoride mouthwash containing nanoencapsulated Fluoride (NanoF) - in fluoride retention in saliva and dental plaque. A study of the clinical and laboratory type, crossover, double-blind, randomized will be held. After sample calculation, the total of 12 individuals aged between 18 and 35 years old, healthy, decayed, missing, and filled teeth index less than 6 and residents in brazilian northeast capital will be part of the sample. Fluoride bioavailability will be evaluated in the biofilm and saliva after the use of fluoridated weekly. The biofilm will be assessed on 1h and 12 h after rinsing; and unstimulated saliva in times of 3, 15, 30, 45, 60 minutes and 12 hours after. It will be 3 mouthwashes: 50% Nanoencapsulated Fluoride, 100% Nanoencapsulated Fluoride and Free sodium fluoride. Between weeks of use, rinsing will be extended washout (without fluoride) to avoid carryover effect. Inferential data analysis will be carried out, considering the amount of alpha <0.05. So knowing that caries is a dynamic process, the largest fluoride retention in the oral fluids promoted by the Nanoencapsulated Fluoride may have important impact on Des-Re process and in the control of dental caries.
The short-term effects of chewing gum containing xylitol and/or blackberry extract on oral microbiota was studied. Fifty healthy adults participated in a randomized, placebo-controlled, cross-over design study.
This study will compare the post sedation events from three different multi-drug oral sedation regimens in order to help pediatric dentists determine the best course of action for their patients and prepare parents appropriately and caution them about the expected effects. Patients will be evaluated for adverse effects within two time periods at 8 and 24 hours post oral sedation procedure using surveys.
The basis of pediatric dentistry is to provide cooperation in children with various behavioral management techniques. The presence or absence of the parent during dental treatments can be used to ensure the child's compliance with the treatment. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the presence or absence of the parent on the child's dental anxiety and child's behavior during dental treatment. The secondary aim is to examine the relationship between the child's dental fear and the parent's dental fear. Healthy children between the ages of 4-7, who have no dental experience and need restorative treatment will be included in the study. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three study groups (Group 1: Parental absence, Group 2: Parent behind a barrier and Group 3: Parental presence). Psychometric and projective tests will be applied to assess child's and parent's dental anxiety at the beginning of the study. At the second appointment scheduled for the operative treatment of decayed primary molar tooth, first the child will be administered topical and local anesthesia, a rubber dam will be placed on the decayed tooth, the caries will be removed with high and low speed rotary instruments and the cavity will be restored with a compomer filling. Children's heart rates and blood oxygen saturation will be measured by a pulse oximeter during treatment in order to evaluate dental anxiety. Children will be videotaped during treatment so that their behaviour can be evaluated later by another researcher. After treatment, psychometric and projective tests used to measure the child's dental anxiety will be re-administered.
The aim of the study is to study the application of Lactobacillus rhamnosus X253 as oral probiotics by the way of a randomised, double blinded, parallel, placebo-controlled clinical trial, and to eto detect the changes in oral flora of volunteers, and judge the improvement effect of X253 lozenges on the human oral flora.
Evaluation of two different types of zirconia crowns ( Kinder Krown , Nusmile crown) used in carious primary anterior teeth
Early childhood caries (ECC) ,a global public health problem, highly prevalent and severe with life long implications is entirely preventable. as an alternative to general anesthesia low cost innovative materials such as SDF are promising for low income countries such as Pakistan for reducing the burden of dental caries. SDF may positively transform prevntive and clinical pediatric dental practices and services in Pakistan. FDA approves 38% SDF for arresting caries in vulnerable populations.
Early childhood caries is a persistent problem often leading to dental treatment under general anaesthesia (GA). Thus, this study was to investigate the preventive effect of two additional intensive oral hygiene appointments before and after general anaesthesia. In this randomized, controlled clinical trial, 408 children (age 2-5 years, mean 4.2+-1.04) intended for general anaesthesia were recruited and randomly assigned to the intervention and control groups with or without two additional intensive oral hygiene appointments before and after the general anaesthesia. At baseline and at 6-/12-month follow-ups, Approximal Plaque Index (API), gingiva Sulcus Bleeding Index (SBI), caries and initial caries index: initial, decayed, missing, filled, teeth (idmft) were recorded.
IBD patients have a higher risk of oral diseases that affect the oral mucosa, the teeth and the tooth supporting tissues. These conditions are often associated with pain, bleeding and impaired masticatory function which may have an impact on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). However, few studies have investigated the self-evaluation of oral quality of life in IBD patients. The rare existing studies focus on very specific patients (elderly patients, patients with stomas) and do not use validated tools for the evaluation of OHRQoL. We also lack data on the effect of treatments such as immunosuppressants and type of IBD on OHRQoL. The aim of this study is to (i) compare oral quality of life in a cohort of IBD patients versus non-IBD patients and (ii) explore potential factors that influence oral quality of life in IBD
