Filter by:Little is known about the impact of tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy on the severity and presentation of respiratory infections, let alone COVID-19. Current knowledge of the role of NALT suggests that its absence may be associated with an increased risk of severe disease. Assessing the impact of tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy on the risk of adverse evolution in COVID-19 would help to better identify patients at risk of adverse evolution, so that they can be rapidly offered appropriate treatment. It would also provide a better understanding of the pathophysiology of this infection. Primary objective: to determine whether there is a link between a history of tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy and the risk of severe COVID-19. Primary endpoint: proportion of patients with a history of tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy among those hospitalized for severe COVID-19. The results of this study will be compared with a data-driven study of Covid patients without severe disease.
This study is a phase Ⅱ clinical trial to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of SCTV01E-2 in people of different ages who had been vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccines. A total of at least 600 subjects aged 3 years and older who were previously vaccinated with domestically licensed SARS-CoV-2 vaccines with recommended doses and immunization schedules are planned to be enrolled. Group A included 400 patients aged 18 years and above, and group B included 200 patients aged 3-17 years.
Open-label, prospective intervention study of IndoVac® as a single, homologous booster dose
The goal is to develop and evaluate two VR simulations (interactive VR, 3600 video) applied to the context of Emergency Medicine. The aim of this pilot study is to develop two VR simulations, and to compare their effectiveness with traditional theatre-based simulations. Primary Objectives: to compare knowledge retention and application of knowledge during emergency crisis scenarios following VR-360, interactive VR and theatre-based simulation sessions. Secondary Objectives: to assess the usability and feasibility (resources), as well as the emotional engagement, of the above three modalities.
Research suggests that Whole Body Hyperthermia in a sauna-like environment can reduce symptoms related to post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC), or Long Covid. The investigators aim to study the feasibility and treatment effect of this procedure for patients experiencing Long Covid symptoms.
The goal of this observational study is to compare the FINDER FLU A/B, RSV, SARS-CoV-2 Test to an FDA-cleared device. The study will utilize prospectively collected de-identified nasopharyngeal samples obtained from both pediatric and adult populations from subjects presenting with symptoms of respiratory illness. The main question it aims to answer are: • the study is to validate that the device intended use in terms that the device's performance meets the criteria for substantial equivalence with a predicate and satisfies the statutory criteria for Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waiver.
Post-transplant patients with COVID-19 infection who attended Shenzhen No. 3 Hospital from December 2022 to February 2023, and enrolled the general population with COVID-19 infection who were hospitalized during the same period, matched by age and gender.
Patients with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID (PASC, or "Long COVID") experience cognitive dysfunction. The investigators will test the hypothesis that 999 mL of IV saline will improve cognitive function in patients with POTS and Long COVID compared to placebo (50 mL of saline).
Following an infection with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2), one in ten people will experience persisting symptoms, or develop symptoms which can last for months and even years. These symptoms affect people in different ways and have been demonstrated to broadly impact physical, mental, and cognitive health. This is called Long COVID. Currently, there are no treatments available to address the issues that patients experience but anti-viral medications have been suggested as being potentially effective. This study will recruit patients that have confirmed long COVID and participants will undertake a series of tests to determine their symptoms and the impact that their condition has had on their bodily systems. The total duration of each participant's involvement is approximately 8 weeks, and this will involve 13 visits (15 visits if taking part in Exeter) at the closest study location (Derby or Exeter). Initial assessments are conducted over three separate visits and then all participants will be scheduled to receive five consecutive days of a medication that has been identified as having the potential to reduce the impact of Long COVID. Following a period of 28 days, participants will be invited to repeat the same tests that were conducted before receiving the medication so that it can be determined how well the drug has worked. In this study we are specifically collecting information to understand how feasible this medication could be to help patients improve their condition and this will help us to determine how likely this drug is able to be used within the wider Long COVID community. The medication that will be used within this study is an existing anti-viral medication (Remdesivir). If we find patients are able to tolerate the treatment and the research tasks we will use this information to conduct a larger trial to determine how well this drug can be used to reduce the impact of Long COVID in a greater number of patients.
A Phase Ⅲ Clinical Trial of Recombinant COVID-19 Trivalent (XBB+BA.5+Delta) Protein Vaccine (Sf9 Cell) in Booster Vaccination to Evaluate Efficacy, Safety and Immunogenicity
