Filter by:We hypothesise that patients with SARS-Cov-2 infection are characterized by progressive changes in distribution of distinct lung macrophages populations mediated by influx of circulating monocytes into the lungs . Moreover, we also hypothesise that patients with higher rate of MerTKpos alveolar macrophages in the lung lavage will have the lowest rate of lung complications and the best recovery outcome in terms of clinical outcome and need of assisted ventilation supporting the use of macrophage phenotyping as novel prognostic biomarker in patients with SARS-Cov-2 infection. Finally, the definition of the transcriptomic signature of peripheral blood and tissue-derived myeloid cell subtypes will offer new therapeutic target of this uncurable newly discovered infection.
This is a comparative prospective diagnostic accuracy study reported according to the STARD guidelines. Citizens at an outpatient COVID19 test facility at Testcenter Danmark Valby will be invited to participate in the study on a volunteer basis. The enrolled participants will have the planned oropharyngeal swab performed in the test center and sent for a SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR test at TestCenter Danmark, Statens Serum Institut, Copenhagen, Denmark as usual. Besides the planned oropharyngeal swab performed in the test center, the participants will have additional specimens collected in form of saliva, nasopharyngeal-, nasal-, and oropharyngeal swabs. These will all be used for the detection of nucleic acids from the four most common strains of influenza (B Yamagata, B Victoria, A H1N1 and A H3N2), SARS-CoV-2 and RSV A/B. Further we will measure immune mediating cytokines, chemokines, and interleukins in the different specimens. These analyses will be performed at Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
The goal of this observational study is to evaluate new non-invasive passive surveillance technologies, Level 42 AI imPulse™ Una and TOR devices for the detection of COVID-19, Flu, and/or RSV in asymptomatic and symptomatic individuals over age of 18 undergoing COVID-19, Flu, and/or RSV screening and testing at BAMC Ft Sam Houston, TX; with and without COVID-19, Flu, and/or RSV. The hypotheses are: (H1) The imPulseTM Una and the imPulseTM TOR e-stethoscopes have at least a similar discriminative and detection ability among symptomatic and asymptomatic COVID-19 carrier versus those not infected compared to gold standard RT-PCR. We will operationalize and deploy both the imPulseTM Una and imPulseTM TOR e-stethoscope into DoD use-cases and compare their usability between the devices. (H2) Identify if the imPulseTM Una and the imPulseTM TOR e-stethoscopes have at least a similar discriminative and detection ability among symptomatic and asymptomatic Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Influenza and Long COVID carriers versus those not infected compared to gold standard Rapid RSV and Flu Antigen Tests, or RT-PCR and molecular assays. We will operationalize and deploy both the imPulseTM Una and imPulseTM TOR e-stethoscope into DoD use-cases and compare their captured traces in the early identification of disease/illness analyzed by the devices built in algorithms. (H3) In the mid to long-term, this approach will also be explored as a diagnostic system to explore pursue the physical (structural and mechanical) properties of cells and tissues that maintain normal cell behavior (motility, growth, apoptosis), and the critical importance of the ability of cells to sense and respond to mechanical stresses, which will be operationally critical for assessment of both traumatic and unconventional exposures in austere environments. Participants will: - Be consented; - Be screened for COVID-19, Flu, and/or RSV symptoms according to BAMC's current screening procedures; - Have study data collected; - Complete a symptoms questionnaire; - imPulseTM Una and TOR e-stethoscopes examination will be conducted; - Participants will be compensated for completing all study requirements. (Active-Duty personnel must complete the study procedures while off-duty in order to receive compensation.)
This is a 24-week open trial. We will enroll long-COVID patients with cognitive impairments. All patients will receive DAOIB for 24 weeks. We will assess the patients every 8 weeks during the treatment period (weeks 0, 8, 16, and 24). We hypothesize that DAOIB treatment will be beneficial in improving the cognitive function, mood symptoms, global functioning and quality of life in long-COVID patients with cognitive impairments.
Based on the characteristics of symptoms, differences in physical and chemical examinations and tests, and characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) disease differentiation and syndrome differentiation, the evaluation indicators for the clinical early warning model were screened, and the "three-level early warning mechanism for COVID-19 patients at high risks, with progression to severe cases and sequelae was constructed.
About 15,000 to 25,000 subjects will be screened. Their information will be collected, venous blood will be sampled, their serum antibody levels will be detected, and the incidence of COVID-19 wil be followed up.
To date, little is understood regarding post-COVID fatigue or cancer fatigue though it is known to affect a large proportion of patients (10-70% depending on the population). This study aims to investigate potential mitochondrial function and metabolic changes in brain to provide further information regarding the etiology of these changes leading to fatigue. This study hypothesized that Post-COVID fatigue is ensued by perturbations in metabolism and mitochondrial function in the brain. This is a case-control study. In this study, 30 patients (experimental group) complaining of persistent fatigue lasting longer than 4 weeks after recovering from SARS-CoV-2 infection and the age/gender-matched control of 30 healthy subjects (control group 1) and 30 patients suffering from cancer-related fatigue patients longer than 4 weeks after remission (control group 2). Both the experimental group (post-COVID fatigue) and control group 2 (cancer fatigue) will be recruited from NUH outpatient clinic will undergo a session of MRI, 3D Arterial Spin Labelling (ASL) and 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and the Chalder Fatigue Scale, Health Questionnaire (EQ-5D-5L) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale at baseline and follow-up visit.
A. Primary objective Identifying risk factors for peri-operative complications in patients who have had COVID-19. B. Secondary objectives Identifying peri-operative complications in patients who have had COVID-19. Follow-up of peri-operative complications during hospitalization. Identifying the safe distance at which a patient can be operated after a Sars CoV2 infection without having an increased risk of peri-operative complications. C. Study inclusion and exclusion criteria 1. Inclusion criteria Patients should be included if: - are scheduled for elective cardiac surgery with extracorporeal circulation (bypass); - they give their consent for their data to be included in studies; 2. Exclusion criteria Patients should be excluded if: - they have emergency surgery; - have had Sars Cov 2 infection more recently than 3 months; D. Data Collection It is done in an excel table. Data collection is done anonymously. No patient-identifying data will be collected. The collected data will be about comorbidities, COVID-19 status - disease and vaccination, postoperative complications.
Although respiratory symptoms were predominant in patients infected with COVID-19, gastrointestinal symptoms were always reported in about 10% patients. Previous studies demonstrated that the SARS-CoV-2 virus still persists in stool samples for a long time after initial infection. Moreover, some patients had a longer duration of COVID-19-related gastrointestinal symptoms, which was defined as "post-acute COVID-19 syndrome". Previous studies have shown that functional gastrointestinal disorders may occur after acute gastroenteritis. Functional dyspepsia (FD) is one of the most common functional gastrointestinal disorders. FD was reported to be correlated with multiple pathophysiological mechanisms, including GI bacterial imbalance, disordered gut microbiota, and disturbed barrier and immune function. It is unknown whether COVID-19 infection could exacerbate the symptoms of FD. Therefore, we followed up a group of FD patients before and after COVID-19 and investigate the impact of COVID-19 infection on the symptoms of FD.
The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Larazotide (AT1001) versus placebo in children and young adults 7 to ≤21 years of age who present with symptoms of Long COVID in the presence of SARS-CoV-2 antigenemia. AT1001 (n=32) or placebo (n=16) will be administered orally four times a day (QID) for 21 days.
